Extraordinary willpower of female workers with cancer
Fighting terminal cancer, female worker Huynh Thi Ly still persistently clung to the factory, overcoming the pain of illness to contribute nearly 40 initiatives.
Nearly 40 initiatives from production practice
That is the case of Ms. Huynh Thi Ly (born in 1987), working at Yazaki EDS Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Di An ward, Ho Chi Minh City). In 2006, Ms. Ly started working at the company as a worker checking the quality of car power lines.
With diligence, responsibility and constant learning awareness, she gradually affirmed her professional capacity. In 2013, she was trusted by the company to be assigned the task of Head of the KCS group (product quality inspection).
In her position, Ms. Ly always believes that: "Completing the assigned task is not enough, workers still need to proactively explore to improve their working methods, improve the quality and efficiency of production.
From problems arising in daily work, she has persistently researched and proposed solutions suitable to the reality at the enterprise. From 2022-2025, she has had nearly 40 innovations, focusing on quality inspection stages, production processes and work management. Solutions such as installing direction lights during inspection, improving the process of wrapping tape, pasting decals, optimizing work tables and work forms have contributed to limiting errors, preventing defective goods from leaking out, while improving productivity and saving costs and materials.
Notably, she also proactively changed the method of entering working hours to reduce time; improved the attachment of the rear clamp frame with efu when needing to move so as not to waste time drilling in and removing; improved cutting the partition to shorten it to create gaps for the kensa when placing the wire in and taking the wire out easily without wasting time; changed the OPT wrapping process to reduce time and waste; changed the checking from real accessories to images for clips with high curved structures pointing the clip nose upwards to help reduce nylon waste...
Ms. Ly's initiatives are assessed by the Workshop Manager of Yazaki EDS Vietnam Co., Ltd. as effective for the business.
Overcoming adversity, maintaining the spirit of labor
Behind the contributions in work are Ms. Ly's difficult personal circumstances. She is fighting breast cancer, stage IV metastasizing to the lungs, bones and spinal cord.
Ms. Ly shared: "I discovered the disease and was treated from 2015, and in 2024 the disease recurred. Currently, every 3 weeks I have to go to Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital for a re-examination to get medicine once. On average, each month, drug money alone costs 4-5 million VND.
The pain caused by illness makes her life even more difficult, while the worry about the future of the family is still constant. Her husband works in mechanics, his job and income are unstable. Her family is classified as a poor household, while living expenses and treatment are a heavy burden.
According to the grassroots trade union of Yazaki EDS Vietnam Co., Ltd., although suffering from a serious illness, Ms. Ly still shows perseverance and a sense of responsibility for work and family. She does not let life's upheavals affect creativity and work efficiency over the years.
“In adversity, I have received kind inquiries and timely support and help both materially and spiritually from the Trade Union organization. With respect and gratitude, I always determine that no matter what the situation, I must always strive to rise up with the will to overcome adversity,” Ms. Ly shared.
