Ho Chi Minh City - Possessing AI initiatives that bring billions of VND in profit, Dr. Duong Thi Thuy Van is also a passionate trade union official, actively spreading technology to the community.

Bringing AI, Chatbots into work

In the meeting room, Dr. Duong Thi Thuy Van is passionately guiding female colleagues on how to bring AI into teaching. As Director of the Center for Innovation and Science-Technology Transfer, Head of the Women's Affairs Committee of Ton Duc Thang University, she is always concerned about finding solutions to optimize her professional work.

Previously, reviewing training programs was mainly done manually, data was scattered, so it took time and errors easily arose. The school lacked automatic tools for analyzing and comparing according to OBE standards and international accreditation criteria," Ms. Van shared.

This reality has motivated her to research the application of digital technology and AI to standardize processes, reduce manual operations and improve accuracy when updating training programs.

Ms. Van recalled that the initiative that took the most effort was to bring quality accreditation work to the digital environment. In the early days, as a pioneer, she had to self-study and research many different sets of standards, build models and training materials from writing reports, collecting evidence to external evaluation.

Thanks to those efforts, to date, all university training programs that have graduated from the school have achieved prestigious international accreditation standards. Ton Duc Thang University also excellently achieved educational institution quality accreditation according to HCÉRES (2018–2023) and FIBAA (2024–2030) standards.

Inspiring female intellectuals and spreading AI to the community

Not only excellently completing professional management tasks, in her position as Head of the Women's Affairs Committee, Dr. Duong Thi Thuy Van still maintained an impressive performance with 5 consecutive years of achieving the titles "Grassroots Emulation Soldier" and "Excellent Trade Union Member".

Carrying many responsibilities at the same time, she frankly confided: "There are also times when I am overloaded and cannot fully balance all roles. What I try to do is keep the pace of work and clearly define the priority order at each time.

According to Ms. Van, the secret lies in not separating yourself into "many people" for each position. She believes that professional work, Party work or trade union work all aim for a common goal: building a strong collective, supporting colleagues and contributing to the development of the school. When looking at tasks in a unified whole, connecting work becomes easier and avoids the dispersion of resources.

Besides, building a team and assigning the right people to the right jobs is a key factor. "I always focus on fostering and creating conditions for civil servants to develop their abilities and be proactive in their work. When the team is strong enough, managers do not need to embrace everyone," she shared.

From her own experience, she and the Women's Committee and the School Trade Union Executive Committee always focus on creating an environment for female civil servants to "both study and work". Each year, the unit organizes 2 to 4 activities such as digital transformation seminars, AI application in expertise, video lecture design or thematic lectures, attracting about 200 participants each time. "We choose the'learning by doing' method so that women can create practical products right in their work, thereby gaining more confidence when accessing technology," she emphasized.

Not only organizing general movements, Dr. Thuy Van also directly guides and accompanies many female colleagues in postgraduate studies and professional development. Thanks to that guidance, many women have grown up, taking on the positions of professional team leaders at the unit. In parallel, the Women's Affairs Committee always comprehensively cares for the spiritual and physical life of female civil servants - from periodic health check-ups, sports activities, psychological counseling to caring for workers' children. She believes that when they are well supported in both expertise and life, women will have more support, confidence and motivation to embark on scientific research and innovation.

Notably, the AI application model initiated by Dr. Thuy Van did not stop within the lecture hall but has spread strongly to the community. After successfully testing for nearly 1,000 lecturers and public employees and attracting 187 contestants to participate in the school-level competition, the program has been replicated to 10 universities, many departments, major industries, and large enterprises and 20 wards and communes in Ho Chi Minh City.
