Spreading the spirit of dedication from workplace to community

Hà Anh (báo lao động) 24/10/2026 14:40 (GMT+7)

From rescuing people in the fierce flood to initiatives to improve productivity and willpower to overcome adversity, typical Vietnamese workers are inspiring about responsibility, creativity and aspiration to contribute.

From simple actions to great values

On the night of November 19, 2025, when the historic flood suddenly swept through Hoa Xuan commune, Dak Lak province, Mr. Nguyen Van Cung, working at Viettel Dak Lak Construction Branch, Viettel Construction Corporation, Military Industry - Telecommunications Group, was on duty to ensure telecommunications infrastructure safety at the PYN0007 BTS base station in Thach Tuan 1 village.

Faced with rising water, he urgently moved the equipment to a high position to limit damage and ensure communication for rescue and relief work. But when he heard the cries for help of isolated people, he decided to rush into the raging water to save people, even though he knew his wife and two young children were also isolated by floodwaters, about 2km away.

Throughout 8 hours of struggling with the fast-flowing water, Mr. Cung directly rescued 40 people, including 11 children. On the way back to find a way to get his family out of the flooded area, he also promptly guided the rescue canoe team to find a way and rescue 3 more children.

For him, rescuing people in distress is a command from the heart, as well as a responsibility that Viettel workers and soldiers are willing to fulfill. His story spreads the image of workers who are not only firm in their profession but also full of compassion, willing to put community interests above their own safety.

If Mr. Cung left his mark with courageous actions in the midst of natural disasters, Mr. Hoang Ngoc Hien - worker of Ironing Team 2, Factory NS1, Dai Dung Nghi Son Mechanical Engineering Joint Stock Company (Thanh Hoa) - affirmed the value of workers through persistent learning, technical improvement and improving production efficiency.

In the process of working, Mr. Hien realized that traditional manual welding methods still have many limitations. From that reality, he researched and implemented the "Fairy fastest, standardest" initiative, focusing on optimizing welding posture and order; standardizing the fitting and adjustment stages; adjusting technology parameters and quality control right on the spot.

The core point of the initiative is to shorten the time but still ensure proper technique, safety and quality. When applied to many components, improvements that seem to only save a few minutes in each piece can contribute to speeding up the processing progress of the entire department.

Not stopping at manual welding techniques, Mr. Hien also actively approaches mechanization, contributing to bringing modern equipment into production. The message he sends to union members and workers is also simple: Be dedicated to the profession, constantly learn and practice skills; because every initiative, every improvement, no matter how small, can create great value for businesses and society.

Another example is Ms. Huynh Thi Ly, who has been associated with Yazaki EDS Vietnam Co., Ltd. for more than 20 years and has 39 initiatives and improvements in the 2022-2025 period.

Behind those contributions are particularly difficult circumstances. She has breast cancer, relapsed and metastasized to lungs, bones, bone marrow and lymph nodes, identified in stage IV. Her 19-year-old daughter has been suffering from epilepsy since childhood and has congenital defects in her left eye, unable to see. Her husband works as a mechanic with low income, unstable jobs; the family is classified as a poor household, while treatment and living expenses are always a burden.

There were times of pessimism and worry, but thinking about her family and daughter, Ms. Ly was determined to continue living, working and taking care of her loved ones. The October 2026 test results showed that the tumor decreased by about 90% compared to before, bringing her more joy and motivation on the treatment journey.

In her work, she still promotes sensitivity and a sense of responsibility. Her journey also shows the practical meaning of the companionship from the Trade Union organization. When she developed the disease in 2015 and when the disease progressed severely in 2024, the grassroots Trade Union mobilized union members and workers to donate to support treatment costs.

Sharing cannot erase the difficulties she faces, but it helps her reduce the burden and have more spiritual support. From Ms. Ly's story, the spirit of overcoming difficulties is not only the effort of the individual but also associated with a humane working environment, where workers are cared for, encouraged and facilitated to develop their abilities.

Mr. Cung, Mr. Hien and Ms. Ly are 3 of the 10 workers who will be commended by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour with the title "National Typical Vietnamese Workers in 2026".

Honoring to spread good values

According to Ms. Ho Thi Kim Ngan, Member of the Standing Committee, Deputy Head of the Labor Relations Department of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, the commendation of 10 typical Vietnamese workers nationwide in 2026 aims to affirm the position and role of workers and the working class in the new era; and at the same time inspire and create motivation for union members and workers nationwide, contributing to improving the quality of human resources serving national development.

The commendation ceremony is expected to take place at 7:30 PM on October 24, 2026. The five groups of subjects considered for honor include typical workers in applying science and technology, digital transformation, technical improvement, innovation; overcoming difficulties to rise up; building and protecting the Party, State, regime, Vietnam Trade Union and enterprises; community activities; participating in national and international competitions and contests.

Honoring workers' role models is meaningful when the achievements of each individual become a motivation for the collective to progress together. From the courage of Mr. Cung, the creative spirit of Mr. Hien to the will and persistent contributions of Ms. Ly, each story contributes to clarifying the image of responsible, skilled, strong-willed and willing to contribute Vietnamese workers.

That is also the profound value of commending typical examples: Not only recognizing what workers have done, but also arousing professional pride, encouraging initiatives from the grassroots level and spreading the spirit of sharing in the community. When typical examples are known, respected and replicated, the contribution of each worker will contribute more motivation to the emulation movement for labor production, building a modern, creative and humane Vietnamese worker contingent.

From nearly 18 million workers nationwide, the VGCL has carefully selected, publicly and transparently evaluated to find 10 workers to honor.

Each of the workers honored has a different age, different jobs, each person has their own journey to gather here today, but they meet in one common point: Not accepting to stop before difficulties, not satisfied with what they have and always innovating, thinking of better things for the collective, community, and country.

Some people master technology, apply scientific advances, bring initiatives from ideas into production lines, improve productivity and product quality. Some people affirm Vietnamese skills in national and international arenas.

Some people are surrounded by difficulties, but strive to overcome adversity to stand firm on their own and help colleagues. Some people actively participate in building the Party, State, regime and Trade Union organization; maintain discipline, and spread civic responsibility.

Some people, despite the hardship of many professional tasks, are still full of love after working hours and still spend time, effort and love, volunteering for the community.
