The person who "ignites the fire" of innovation and unites union members

From promoting scientific research, digital transformation to caring for the lives of union members and workers, Ms. Cao Thi Mai Phuong contributes to creating motivation for development at BCIT.

Ms. Cao Thi Mai Phuong is currently Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Deputy Principal in charge of science and technology, innovation, in charge of the Center for Science and Technology Development, Innovation and Digital Transformation, and also Chairman of the Trade Union of the College of Industrial Technology (BCIT) - under the Vietnam Trade Union of Industry and Trade.

The person who "ignites the fire" of science and technology, innovation

From Head of the Department of Scientific Research to Vice Rector, through each position, Ms. Mai Phuong maintains a motto: proactive, creative and thorough. For her, scientific research does not stop at reporting pages but must go into lectures, into practical equipment, so that learners can touch new technologies even when they are still in school. In her position as Vice Chairwoman of the Science and Technology Council, she directly directs the research movement throughout the school.

She is not outside the topics she directs. Seeing that the school's solar power project only supplies electricity to the multi-purpose building but has not gone deep into training, she and the research group (2023–2024) designed and manufactured solar and wind power practice tables with separate modules, and put them into teaching for the electrical and electronics sectors. The research topic of optical and electronic systems for measuring non-contact temperature of heat-emitting objects, serving temperature control in processing, forging, stamping, pressing, and metal rolling, left 11 articles in international journals with ISSN codes.

When digital transformation became an inevitable requirement, she participated in building the E-learning – BCIT (2025) teaching system, an online learning management platform for teachers and students to teach and learn anytime, anywhere. The system has been deployed, digital learning materials for industries have been updated, and the electronic lecture library has become a companion for teachers, students, and students. In 2026, she will continue to participate in the project of designing and installing building energy practice rooms, with smart electrical systems applying IoT, and artificial intelligence-integrated surveillance cameras.

Those efforts have been extended into results for the whole school. As the focal point for deploying applications to open majors and careers, she contributed to BCIT being licensed to train 4 new majors and careers in June 2024 and in 2026 being licensed to train 4 more training majors including Semiconductor Technology and Artificial Intelligence.

The keeper of the fire of unity

If science and technology are accurate calculations, then trade union work is very gentle things. Together with the Standing Committee and the Executive Committee, Ms. Mai Phuong accompanies and protects the legitimate rights and interests of cadres, civil servants, and workers: 100% of workers have enough jobs, are signed labor contracts and participate in social insurance, health insurance, and unemployment insurance; salaries and salary increases are implemented promptly and in accordance with regulations. Every year, the Trade Union coordinates to organize the Civil Servants' Conference, participates in adjusting, supplementing and building internal regulations each year so that everyone has a voice in the common house.

That care comes from specific things: Summer sightseeing and vacation (2025 is Quy Nhon beach, Gia Lai); Mid-Autumn Festival and Children's Day gifts for children of officials and employees; praise and rewards for good students; program to celebrate Vietnamese Women's Day. Spiritual life is also nurtured through cultural, artistic, and sports activities: physical training houses, drowning prevention and control skills training classes, and Pickleball tournaments throughout the unit.

In 2025, the "BCIT Union Members' Day" created a warm atmosphere; in 2026, the festival became even more meaningful when it was organized on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the school's establishment (April 7, 1966 – April 7, 2026). The Trade Union also promptly joined hands to support charity movements, such as Tet gifts for children with disabilities at the Provincial General Social Protection Center.

Ms. Cao Thi Mai Phuong has been a grassroots emulation soldier for many consecutive years, an Emulation soldier of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, along with Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister, the Minister of Industry and Trade and the Vietnam Industry and Trade Union...
