Year-end seasonal jobs attract labor in Can Tho
At the end of the year, many workers in Can Tho switch to finding seasonal, part-time, and delivery jobs to increase income and cover Tet expenses.
Short-term job search trends
Records at the Can Tho City labor market at the end of the year show that the wave of shifting to seasonal and short-term jobs is taking place quite actively. The recruitment demand of retail and service businesses is increasing sharply to meet purchasing power near Tet, opening up many flexible job opportunities for workers.
Just receiving her college degree, Ms. Nguyen Thao Nhi (22 years old, Thoi An Dong ward, Can Tho city) decided to apply to work as a seasonal sales staff at supermarkets and large shopping centers in the city.
At this time, applying for official positions requires a lot of probationary time, while I want to quickly have income to cover living expenses and accumulate spending during Tet. Doing seasonal sales services at the end of the year has a good income, and the shifts are flexible, so it is very suitable for new graduates like me," Ms. Thao Nhi shared.
Sharing the same choice of flexible mobility, Mr. Tran Van Hoang (26 years old, Binh Thuy ward, Can Tho city) - a freelance general laborer - has completely switched to working as a technology motorbike driver.
In the last months of the year, the demand for traveling, delivering food, and delivering goods increases, so if you work hard from morning to night, you will immediately have a stable income to take care of your family for Tet" - Mr. Hoang said.
Supply-demand pressure and seasonal shift
According to the Can Tho City Employment Service Center (DVVL), in the third quarter of 2026, although the unit has provided employment, labor policy and vocational training advice to 101,537 people, and introduced jobs to 7,496 people and provided 1,616 workers to businesses, the surplus workforce without jobs in the area is still very large.
From the current situation of the labor market in the third quarter and the survey process, the Center forecasts that labor demand will increase sharply in many key industry groups.
The processing - manufacturing - garment industry increased sharply because businesses focused resources on completing export orders for seafood, food and consumer goods to serve the Tet market.
The Construction and Infrastructure Engineering sector maintains high recruitment demand for electricians, mechanics, and technicians to accelerate the "60 days and nights" construction phase to disburse public investment capital.
Especially in the Group of Trade - Services and Transportation industries, transportation demand and consumer demand stimulus surged, leading to a large recruitment demand for driver positions, delivery staff (shippers), marketing and service. However, due to financial pressure, salary costs and year-end Tet bonuses, many businesses limit the recruitment of long-term official personnel. Instead, units focus on recruiting seasonal and part-time workers to easily optimize costs and adjust scale after peak periods.
The Center also predicts that the supply of short-term job seekers in Can Tho City will increase sharply. This force includes new graduates in the third quarter, freelancers, redundant personnel from dissolved units and unemployed people who are receiving insurance. This group tends to actively switch to part-time jobs, serving restaurants, delivering goods or working as technology drivers to quickly increase income at the end of the year.
