Can Tho seafood enterprises have difficulty recruiting skilled workers
Year-end orders increase, many seafood processing enterprises in Can Tho are promoting recruitment, but face difficulties in finding skilled workers.
Increased recruitment demand
From now until the end of the year, Indian Ocean One Member Limited Liability Company (Can Tho City) has a fairly large recruitment demand to meet production progress. In which, the raw material, fillet, and shaping stages need about 100 workers; the finished product stage needs about 50 workers.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Bang Tuyen - Chairwoman of the Company's Grassroots Trade Union (CĐCS) - admitted that recruitment work at the end of the year faces some difficulties. The reason is that some new industrial parks have been established, many new businesses have started operating, attracting a part of workers to switch to work.
“The recruitment of skilled workers is therefore difficult. The old workers of the factory returning to work are not many, while skilled workers from other factories transferred here are also there but in limited quantities” - Ms. Tuyen said.
For new workers who are not skilled, the company organizes training for about 2 weeks. During the apprenticeship period, workers are still paid.
This year, Phuong Dong Export Food Processing Co., Ltd. (Can Tho City) has recruited about 200-300 workers to put into operation a new production workshop. The main recruited force is unskilled labor, from Can Tho and some neighboring localities.
Through actual recruitment at the unit, Ms. Nguyen Huynh Tu Thanh - Vice Chairwoman of the Company's Trade Union - said that the labor force is not so scarce, but the recruitment of skilled workers is still difficult. Meanwhile, the fish processing sector has some stages that require high skills and meticulousness, making the recruitment process even more difficult.
Young workers when they first start working, if they encounter difficult jobs or a special working environment, may develop the psychology of quitting their jobs and moving to another company" - Ms. Thanh said.
Increase recruitment connection
According to the Can Tho City Employment Service Center, entering the end of the year, the labor market in the city recorded increased recruitment demand compared to the first half of the year.
Through surveying, collecting information and receiving recruitment orders from businesses in the city and surrounding areas, the center found that the group of industrial production, processing and processing is one of the groups with high recruitment demand.
Garment, footwear, seafood processing, export agricultural products, mechanical and electronic component enterprises are in need of many unskilled workers and machine operators to meet the progress of export orders. However, according to the center, the market still risks a local shortage of unskilled workers with a large number.
To support businesses in supplementing personnel to serve year-end production, the Can Tho City Employment Service Center is implementing many forms of recruitment connection.
The Center organizes periodic job transaction sessions at the headquarters and mobile sessions in localities, helping workers in areas far from the center access recruitment information and reduce travel costs. The "Job Cafe" model is maintained weekly at headquarters, creating conditions for businesses and workers to meet, exchange, and interview directly.
In addition, the center organizes thematic job transaction sessions for each target group, such as demobilized soldiers, technology drivers; career counseling at high schools, vocational schools and implementing labor sending programs abroad such as IM Japan, COLAB.
The Center also coordinates to organize an online job transaction floor linking localities in the Mekong Delta region and neighboring provinces, expanding the scope of access to candidates, and supporting businesses to find human resources suitable for production needs.
