Innovating trade union activities in the era of artificial intelligence

On October 9th, in Ninh Binh, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology organized a training and professional development conference for trade unions in 2026, with the participation of affiliated trade union officials. The conference was organized in direct and online forms.

The conference focused on practical contents such as innovating trade union operating methods in the new situation; improving skills in dialogue, collective bargaining, protecting workers' rights; inspection and supervision work; occupational safety and health and trade union financial management.

In particular, the application of digital platforms and AI in propaganda, grasping public opinion, and operating trade union activities is identified as one of the important contents.

According to the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology, in the context of rapid technological development, working methods and needs of workers are constantly changing, the trade union organization must also proactively innovate to adapt.

The application of AI not only contributes to reducing administrative work and improving the quality of advice, but also helps trade union officials spend more time with union members and workers.

At the conference, leaders of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology emphasized that trade union officials must go one step ahead in learning and applying technology. To mobilize union members to learn digital skills, first of all, trade union officials must have digital skills; to encourage workers to apply AI, trade union officials must know how to use AI effectively and responsibly.

In the third quarter of 2026, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology completed an online training course on advanced AI application skills, business and sales skills. The program attracted 45,588 union members and workers to participate, of which 40,525 people completed the course.

This result shows that the demand for learning, improving skills and adapting to digital transformation of union members and workers is increasing.

In the coming time, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology continues to accelerate the development and implementation of the Project on training and improving professional qualifications and skills for union members and workers and the Project on comprehensive digital transformation of trade union activities in the period 2026 - 2030.

Also within the framework of the conference, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology launched 3 contests including: Composition of logos (Logo) of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology; composition of songs about the working class, trade union organizations and the Science and Technology industry; application of AI in work, towards the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology (August 30, 1947 - August 30, 2027).

On October 10th, the unit plans to launch the 2026 Online Running Tournament, contributing to spreading the spirit of health training, solidarity and connecting union members and workers throughout the industry.

Through activities, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology aims to build a team of trade union officials with the ability to adapt to new technologies, innovate operating methods but always take union members and workers as the center.
