Improving the capacity of Lao Trade Union officials from Vietnamese practice
Not only studying theory, 24 Lao Trade Union officials also researched many practical operating models, thereby accumulating experience in caring for and protecting workers.
On October 22, the Hanoi Labor Federation coordinated with the University of Trade Unions to organize the Closing Ceremony of the Trade Union Theory and Professional Training Class for officials of the Capital Union of Trade Unions of Vientiane, Vientiane province and Luang Prabang province (Lao People's Democratic Republic) in 2026.
Mr. Do Trong Nam - Vice Chairman of Hanoi Labor Federation said that, implementing the Memorandum of Understanding on friendly cooperation relations between Hanoi Labor Federation and Vientiane Capital Trade Union Federation for the period 2022-2027, Hanoi Labor Federation has coordinated with the University of Trade Unions to organize a training class for 24 trade union officials from Vientiane Capital, Vientiane province and Luang Prabang province. The class opened on September 11, with the goal of equipping theoretical knowledge, improving professional skills and sharing practical experiences, contributing to improving the capacity of Lao Trade Union officials in the new situation.
During 45 days of studying in Hanoi Capital, the students completed the program with a total duration of 400 periods, including 215 theoretical periods, 185 practical periods; and participated in 10 days of practical research and 4 days of tutoring and oral exams.
The training content is comprehensively built, closely following the key tasks of the Trade Union organization. Trainees study the basic issues of the Vietnam Trade Union; labor law, trade union law; building harmonious, stable, and progressive labor relations; the role of representing, caring for, and protecting the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of union members and workers; organizational, personnel, and financial work of the Trade Union; occupational safety and health and social insurance.
In addition to theoretical knowledge, the program focuses on fostering practical skills such as propaganda, mobilization to develop union members, establishing grassroots trade unions; organizing employee conferences, grassroots trade union congresses; dialogues at enterprises; negotiation, conflict management; building emulation movements and organizing cultural and spiritual activities for union members and workers.
In particular, the content of building a team of grassroots Trade Union Presidents who are truly leaders of union members and workers is concerned, contributing to improving leadership capacity, organization and deployment of activities at the grassroots level.
The highlight of the course is the close combination of theoretical learning, discussion, experience exchange and practical research. Students came to learn about Trade Union activities at Hai Phong City Labor Federation, Quang Ninh City, Ninh Binh province; Ba Dinh Ward Trade Union, Thuong Tin Commune Trade Union; Trade Union of High-Tech Parks and Hanoi Industrial Parks; Trade Union of Vietnam - Soviet Friendship Labor Culture Palace and Trade Union University.
Through practical research trips, trainees have the opportunity to access specific models and ways of representing and caring for workers, developing union members, building strong Trade Union organizations, organizing emulation movements and improving the quality of grassroots Trade Union activities. This is also an opportunity for trade union officials of the two countries to exchange experiences, enhance understanding and find solutions suitable to operating conditions in each locality.
On October 20th, the Hanoi Labor Federation coordinated with the Trade Union University to organize the graduation exam for students. The exam took place seriously and in accordance with regulations.
With a positive learning spirit, high sense of responsibility and dedicated guidance from the teaching staff, the results achieved are very commendable: out of a total of 24 students participating in the exam, 18 students achieved excellent grades, accounting for 75%; 6 students achieved excellent grades, accounting for 25%.
At the closing ceremony, Trade Union University awarded certificates of completion of the theoretical and professional training program for Trade Union work to students; and awarded Certificates of Merit to 24 students with outstanding achievements in studying and building the class.
Speaking at the ceremony, Comrade Chanmala Kousonh - Vice President of the Capital Union of Trade Unions of Vientiane respectfully thanked the Hanoi Labor Federation and the University of Trade Unions for their concern and coordination in organizing practical and meaningful training classes for Lao Trade Union officials, in addition to short-term training courses, also organizing long-term training courses, many Lao Trade Union officials after training courses have become key Trade Union officials.
