30 Cambodian trade union officials trained in professional skills in Vietnam

The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor organized training on union member development and trade union inspection and supervision for 30 Cambodian trade union officials.

On September 15 in Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor organized a thematic training program on union member development, establishment of grassroots trade unions in private enterprises and trade union inspection and supervision in Ho Chi Minh City. The training course was for 30 delegates who are key leaders of the National Confederation of Trade Unions of Cambodia and the Confederation of Trade Unions of Cambodia.

Attending the program were Mr. Kim Chan-xam-nang, Chairman of the National Confederation of Trade Unions of Cambodia (NACC); Mr. Chhin Sony, Chairman of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Cambodia (CCTU); Ms. Thai Thu Xuong, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and Cambodian trade union officials.

The training course is within the framework of effective cooperation lasting more than 10 years between trade union organizations of the two countries. The event not only contributes to tightening traditional solidarity and friendship but also creates an important forum for the two sides to exchange, remove difficulties, improve the capacity to represent and protect workers' rights in the face of the digital transformation wave.

Speaking at the opening, Ms. Thai Thu Xuong - Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor emphasized that the development of union members and the establishment of grassroots trade unions is a key and urgent task for the Vietnam Trade Union, especially when the country is deeply integrated and participates in new generation free trade agreements. In addition, inspection and supervision play a role in tightening discipline, proactively preventing violations, contributing to building a clean and strong organization.

Faced with the impact of automation and new forms of employment, representatives of the Vietnam Trade Union wished the two sides to share experiences to find solutions suitable to reality.

Ms. Thai Thu Xuong shared: "I believe that this training class will be an opportunity for us to exchange, discuss and share experiences, models, and good practices of each country; and frankly exchange about the difficulties, challenges and issues raised in the practical activities of trade unions.

On the Cambodian delegation's side, Mr. Chhin Sony, Chairman of the Cambodian Confederation of Trade Unions (CCTU), affirmed that the cooperative relationship between the two sides is based on friendship and long-term solidarity. In the context of a rapidly changing working world, developing union members is not only about increasing the number but also building a force with understanding and trust in the organization.

According to Mr. Chhin Sony, trade unions need to strengthen close contact with workers, grasp practical needs and provide practical services to union members, and at the same time focus on creating conditions for young people and women to participate to ensure the sustainability of the movement. Mr. Chhin Sony emphasized: "This training course is an opportunity for all of us to strengthen our knowledge, skills, as well as exchange practical experiences from trade union work".

The training program takes place in two days, September 15 and 16. 2026. After completing the learning content, the Cambodian trade union delegation will go on a field trip to visit economic and cultural facilities in Vinh Long province on September 17.
