On September 15, in Da Nang City, the General Department of Politics organized the opening ceremony of the 2026 training conference for Trade Union officials throughout the army.

At the conference, delegates were studied basic, practical, and direct contents related to the tasks of trade union officials. In which, there was innovation in implementing the task of representing, caring for, and protecting the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of union members and workers.

New thinking and core contents of the Resolution of the 14th Vietnam Trade Union Congress associated with the 5-year Action Program of the Army Trade Union 2025 - 2030.

Key tasks of financial work in the Army Trade Union. Skills in organizing and improving the effectiveness of trade union activities at the grassroots level. Implementing the Trade Union Project to promote the building of occupational safety culture in the workplace in the period 2025 - 2030.

These are comprehensive, basic, practical and very important knowledge contents, helping trade union officials improve their capacity to advise Party committees, political commissars, political officers (secretaries), commanders and political agencies at all levels in leading, directing, and guiding the organization and implementation of the workers' movement and trade union activities.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, Mr. Nguyen Hong Loi, Head of the National Defense Trade Union, said that in recent years, under the leadership and direction of the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense, directly and regularly the General Department of Politics; the guidance of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and the concern of Party committees, political commissars, political officers, commanders and political agencies at all levels, the worker movement and trade union activities in the Army have had many positive changes.

The content and methods of trade union activities have been gradually innovated, strongly oriented towards grassroots levels. The function of representing, caring for, and protecting the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of union members and workers is increasingly clearly shown.

Emulation movements are associated with political tasks, labor production, unit and business building, thereby arousing the spirit of responsibility, self-reliance, self-strengthening, creative labor and aspiration to contribute.

Trade union officials must know how to listen to workers.

According to Mr. Nguyen Hong Loi, in 2026 and the following years, the task of building the Army, consolidating national defense, and protecting the Fatherland poses increasingly high requirements for trade union organizations.

The arrangement of the organizational structure of the political system, innovation of the Vietnam Trade Union organization model, restructuring of military enterprises as well as the rapid changes in production methods, jobs and labor relations are directly affecting trade union activities in the Army.

In that context, trade union officials must continue to strongly innovate their thinking and working methods. "Each official must firmly grasp their functions and tasks; understand the regulations correctly; be deeply involved in the grassroots level; have the capacity to detect, advise and solve problems right from the beginning," Mr. Nguyen Hong Loi emphasized.

According to him, trade union officials in the Army must have both the political bravery of a military official and the ability to represent union members and workers; understand the tasks of the unit, the production and business activities of the enterprise, and at the same time grasp the thoughts, lives, jobs, incomes and issues that union members are concerned about.

A good trade union official, according to Mr. Nguyen Hong Loi, must "know how to listen to workers, understand what workers need", promptly detect issues that may affect the rights, ideology and stability of the unit; know how to advise correctly, accurately, and promptly to the Party Committee and commanders, and at the same time know how to gather, encourage and promote the intelligence and creativity of union members and workers.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Loi requested that each official after the conference must determine for themselves what they will do better for union members and workers; advise on what new and practical contents for the Party Committee and commanders and create specific changes in trade union activities at the grassroots level.
