Ho Chi Minh City Trade Union expands the collection of freelance workers
Trade unions in wards in Ho Chi Minh City innovate the way of developing union members, expanding the gathering of workers from businesses to small traders and freelancers.
Di An seeks ways to gather workers outside businesses
Di An Ward concentrates a large number of businesses, workers and freelancers. Therefore, the Ward Trade Union not only develops union members in businesses but also expands the collection of informal workers.
Recently, Di An Ward Trade Union continuously mobilized to establish 4 grassroots trade unions (CĐCS) in enterprises including: CĐCS Dong Chi Automobile Repair Co., Ltd., CĐCS Thanh Phong Group Joint Stock Company, CĐCS Ket Noi Xanh Investment and Development Co., Ltd. and CĐCS Volcano International Dental Co., Ltd.
These are all businesses with few workers. However, the establishment of grassroots trade unions in these units contributes to expanding the network of gathering workers, caring for and protecting the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of union members and workers. Thereby, building an increasingly strong Trade Union organization.
Notably, on September 21, Di An Ward Trade Union continued to launch the No. 1 Lottery Ticket Union of Di An Ward with 63 union members. This is the 3rd union in Di An Ward to be established. Di An Ward Trade Union said that so far there have been 159 freelancers participating in the unions.
As soon as union members joined, the unit presented 63 gifts and 10 insurance cards to union members in difficult circumstances. This practical support contributed to creating initial connections between workers and the Trade Union organization.
According to Di An Ward Trade Union, the locality has developed and currently manages 189 grassroots trade unions and trade unions, with more than 14,000 union members. The Ward Trade Union continues to search for areas and groups of workers that have not yet been gathered.
Thu Dau Mot brings small traders into the Trade Union organization
Thu Dau Mot Ward Trade Union has just held a launching ceremony and awarded the decision to establish the Thu Dau Mot Market Small Traders Grassroots Trade Union. This is one of the first small trader trade unions in the Northern region of Ho Chi Minh City to be established. Notably, up to 500 small traders joined the trade union immediately after its establishment, and there is still room to continue to develop union members here.
To establish a trade union, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang Tien - Chairwoman of the Trade Union of Thu Dau Mot Ward coordinated with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the Ward to come to the Management Board of Thu Dau Mot Market to dialogue and propagate with business leaders. Next, meet and exchange to help small traders understand the rights and benefits of joining the trade union. When businesses and small traders understand, they both support and agree to establish a small traders' trade union.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Vy - Deputy Head of Thu Dau Mot Market Management Board - said: "There are many small traders in the market and they have been trading for many years but no organization has participated. Previously, only the Market Management Board managed trading activities, there was no organization to connect and participate in activities with local authorities. So when I was mobilized to establish a trade union so that small traders could organize activities, I was very happy and supportive.
Ms. Cao Lanh (Chairwoman of the Trade Union of Thu Dau Mot Market Small Traders) shared: "Being able to participate in the trade union, I am very happy and honored. In the future, any problems will be helped. Besides, those in difficulty will also be supported by the trade union.
Thu Dau Mot Ward Trade Union said that in the first 9 months of 2026, the unit has guided procedures for establishing 30 grassroots trade unions and 3 professional unions. The whole ward has newly developed over 3,100 union members, reaching 129.1% of the city's assigned target. Currently, the Ward Trade Union manages 76 grassroots trade unions with 8,022 union members.
Reality in Thu Dau Mot shows that effective union member development is not only aimed at increasing the number but also importantly finding a suitable approach for each labor group and each business.
