Thai Nguyen - In order to assist freelance workers with pensions and health insurance when they are old, the province supports 20% for people to pay voluntary social insurance.

From September 1, 2026, Thai Nguyen province will support an additional 20% of the monthly voluntary social insurance contribution level according to the poverty line standard for rural areas.

Subjects eligible for policies are voluntary social insurance participants who are registered permanently residing in the province, belong to poor households, near-poor households or are ethnic minorities.

Right before the policy took effect, Dinh Hoa grassroots social insurance coordinated with local authorities, associations, unions and collection service organizations to promote propaganda and counseling.

The content focuses on the beneficiaries of support, the level of support and the actual amount that people have to pay.

Through this, people have more information to choose to participate in voluntary social insurance according to their ability.

After a month of implementation, up to now, in the area managed by Dinh Hoa grassroots social insurance, there are 140 people from poor households and ethnic minorities participating in voluntary social insurance that have increased.

Ms. Loc Thi Hien, born in 1979, Tay ethnic, residing in Khuan Nha hamlet, Kim Phuong commune, is one of the participants after being consulted about the new policy.

Ms. Hien decided to participate in voluntary social insurance for both husband and wife.

“Before, I also wanted to participate, but I was still calculating because I was afraid that paying monthly would be difficult to maintain. Now that the State and the province have provided additional support, the amount to pay myself has decreased, I find it more suitable for my family's ability, so I have participated with the desire that when I am eligible, I will have a pension, and when I am old, I will not have to depend on my children and grandchildren,” Ms. Hien shared.

According to Dinh Hoa Grassroots Social Insurance, as of October 2026, the unit is managing 2,685 ethnic minorities, people from poor and near-poor households participating in voluntary social insurance.

Notably, after enjoying additional support policies, most people in this group do not choose to reduce their contributions but continue to maintain their current contributions.

Some people even choose a higher contribution level within their ability to raise the contribution base, towards a higher pension level when they meet the conditions.

The above results show that the additional support policy initially creates conditions for people to access and participate in voluntary social insurance.

In the coming time, Dinh Hoa grassroots social insurance will continue to propagate policies to support social insurance contribution levels in many forms.

Through this, many people have more opportunities to participate in voluntary social insurance, towards receiving pensions and proactively ensuring their lives when they reach retirement age.
