Tet 2027: Which workers will receive money or tickets home?

According to Plan No. 56/KH-TLĐ dated September 25, 2026 of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Trade Union levels organize Tet care with the motto "All union members and workers have Tet, celebrate Tet", prioritizing people in difficult circumstances, low income, reduced or lost jobs, owed salaries, suffering from serious illnesses, work accidents, affected by natural disasters and people who have not had the conditions to return to their hometowns for Tet for many years.

Regarding money and Tet gifts, Plan 56/KH-TLĐ states an estimated spending level of 2.5 million VND/gift, including 2 million VND in cash and 500,000 VND in in-kind gifts, for delegations of Party, State, and Fatherland Front leaders visiting and giving gifts in places with many workers in difficult circumstances, low incomes, remote and isolated areas, heavy, hazardous, or dangerous occupations or having to work during Tet.

For delegations visited and presented with gifts by members of the Party Central Committee, leaders of the National Assembly, ministries, and sectors, the expected level is 1.5 million VND/gift, including 1 million VND in cash and 500,000 VND in in-kind gifts.

At the local level, the Provincial and City Labor Federations, industry trade unions, corporations, and general corporations are encouraged to mobilize socialized sources, combined with trade union financial sources for care, with a level from trade union financial sources not exceeding 1.35 million VND/person. In addition, trade union levels can provide a maximum of 1 million VND/person in cash or direct transfer to union members and employees according to plan.

Meanwhile, supporting tickets home is a separate program. The General Confederation will support southern provinces and cities to organize 2,000 two-way train tickets and 550 two-way air tickets to take union members and workers home for Tet in the Central and Northern provinces. Localities are also required to organize "Trade Union Bus Trips", "Trade Union Train Trips", "Trade Union Flights".

For workers who do not have the conditions to return to their hometowns, the grassroots Trade Union organizes the program "Tet is not far from home", visits and organizes Tet at boarding houses, construction sites, and projects before the evening of December 29th.

Notably, Plan 56/KH-TLĐ stipulates that the number of union members cared for from the financial resources of the upper-level grassroots Trade Union does not exceed 12% of the total number of union members; especially Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai does not exceed 15%. Socialized sources do not limit the number of people being cared for. At the same time, each person only receives one form of care in cash from the Trade Union financial resources, except in special cases decided by the Standing Committee of the Trade Union at all levels.

Thus, workers are not automatically entitled to both support money and homecoming tickets. The receipt of money, gifts or train and plane tickets depends on each program, priority subject and actual funding according to Plan 56/KH-TLĐ.
