Equipping grassroots trade union officials in Ho Chi Minh City with combat skills
Professional training course for more than 70 grassroots trade union officials in Ho Chi Minh City focuses on equipping them with "combat" collective dialogue and negotiation skills.
On October 4th, the Ho Chi Minh City Trade Union Workers' Counseling and Support Center (under the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City) in coordination with the Trade Union University opened a training class on Trade Union Theory and Professional Work for more than 70 grassroots trade union officials.

The course lasts for 3 months in a combination of direct, online and field trip forms. The program focuses on supplementing practical knowledge and nghiệp vụ to help grassroots officials better adapt to the rapid changes of the labor market, especially the increase in the foundational labor force, informal labor and high-level labor.
Ho Chi Minh City currently manages more than 23,000 grassroots trade unions with more than 2.4 million union members, accounting for about 1/4 of the total number of union members nationwide. In the context of large scale and many changes in labor relations, improving capacity for the contingent of officials has become an urgent requirement, because many grassroots officials today still lack practical experience and skills.

Mr. Phung Thai Quang, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Trade Union Workers' Counseling and Support Center, emphasized: "Coming to the trade union means meeting trade union officials. Having sympathy for the trade union organization is also through trade union officials". He affirmed that officials are the key factor for the trade union organization to shift its focus from caring for life to improving the capacity to represent and protect the legitimate rights and interests of workers.
The training content of this phase focuses closely on daily work such as labor law, women's affairs, union member development, management and administration skills, planning and digital transformation. Notably, the course goes deep into equipping "combat" skills such as dialogue, collective bargaining, signing and supervising collective labor agreements; conflict management; financial - accounting nghiệp vụ (professional skills) and worker security in the new situation.
The training course is the starting point in the goal of systematically training about 1,000 trade union officials in Ho Chi Minh City in the next two years, meeting the standardization of a team of more than 200,000 officials from trade union deputy heads and above in the area.

Previously, on October 3rd, the University of Trade Unions coordinated with the National Defense Trade Union and the City Trade Union Workers' Counseling and Support Center to organize the opening ceremony of the 2026 Trade Union Accounting Professional Development Class - K23 for 44 Trade Union officials in the Army and the Southern Region.
