Promoting a safe and equal working environment in Vung Ang Economic Zone
Ha Tinh - The Provincial Labor Federation organizes communication on preventing and combating sexual harassment, contributing to building a safe and equal working environment for workers.
On October 17th, the Ha Tinh Provincial Labor Federation informed that, towards celebrating Vietnamese Women's Day October 20th, the unit has just organized 2 communication sessions at Hung Nghiep Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Co., Ltd., with the theme "Promoting a safe and equal working environment for workers in Vung Ang Economic Zone".
The program attracted 250 union members and workers from 42 businesses in the area to participate. The activity was coordinated and supported by a number of units, including the UNFPA Project Management Board in Ha Tinh, the Provincial Economic Zone Management Board and businesses and grassroots trade unions.
With visual communication forms, enhanced interaction, workers are equipped with knowledge to identify sexual harassment behavior at work through real-life situations, video illustrations and discussions.
Misconceptions such as that only physical touch is harassment, silence is synonymous with agreement or a little teasing do not cause specific analysis of impact. Through this, workers understand more about personal boundaries, consensus and the right to be respected at work.
The program also guides safe response skills, how to store evidence and procedures for seeking support when being sexually harassed. At the same time, the activity emphasizes the role of trade union organizations in advising, accompanying and protecting the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of union members and workers.
Through the program, the Ha Tinh Provincial Labor Federation aims to raise awareness, promote behavior change, build a civilized, gender-equal, and safe working environment without sexual harassment at businesses in the Vung Ang Economic Zone.
