Spreading the message of no smoke from videos of grassroots trade unions

Lao Cai - Instead of rigid slogans, grassroots trade union officials have put the message of preventing and combating the harms of tobacco into attractive videos and skits.

Implementing Plan No. 26 of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, the Standing Committee of the Lao Cai Provincial Confederation of Labour has issued Guidelines for deploying the contest in trade union levels.

With the motto of focusing on grassroots levels, information about the contest is strongly spread by trade union levels and integrated into meetings.

Instead of just propaganda with slogans, many grassroots trade unions have proactively sought ways to express it more vividly.

The content of the contest is also associated with movements being implemented by the Trade Union organization such as "Green - clean - beautiful, ensuring occupational safety and health", "Green - clean - beautiful - happy agencies and offices".

Through this, the prevention and control of the harmful effects of tobacco is placed in a larger space than building a safe, healthy and civilized workplace.

The response is clearly shown through the number of works sent to the Lao Cai Provincial Labor Federation. After nearly 2 months of implementation, the unit has received 29 works from grassroots trade unions in the area.

Each work has a different approach but also aims to bring the message of preventing and combating the harmful effects of tobacco closer to union members and workers.

Some units choose direct ways of doing things such as hanging no-smoking signs, building regulations, and organizing commitment signing.

Some grassroots trade unions boldly use the form of staged skits, thereby recreating close situations in life and the working environment.

Choosing video and clip formats also helps the message to continue to be shared on digital platforms, instead of just appearing in a propaganda session or at a specific location.

To ensure quality and objectivity in judging, the Standing Committee of the Lao Cai Provincial Labor Federation has established a Judging Panel and a Secretary of the Contest.

The works are evaluated based on many criteria such as content, creativity, visual art, message and propaganda effectiveness.

Through judging and appraisal, the Judging Panel selected 5 typical works to participate in the Creative Video and Clip Contest to promote the prevention and control of the harmful effects of tobacco at the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.
