Khanh Hoa Provincial Labor Federation promotes communication, equips skills to prevent and respond to sexual harassment, towards a safe and equal working environment.
Identify correctly to proactively prevent
The Khanh Hoa Provincial Labor Federation (LĐLĐ) has just organized a training course on skills to prevent and respond to sexual harassment in the workplace for union members and workers at Suoi Dau Industrial Park, Cam Lam commune.
The program is part of a series of communication activities with the theme "Promoting a safe and equal working environment for workers in Suoi Dau Industrial Park".
At the training session, more than 200 workers and grassroots trade union officials were guided to identify acts of sexual harassment, distinguish misconceptions and learn about legal regulations on preventing and responding to this behavior.
Instead of a simple presentation, the organizers integrated quizzes, illustrative videos, real-life situations and interactive discussions. Thereby, helping workers proactively analyze situations, identify personal boundaries and better understand consensus in relationships at work.
According to Clause 9, Article 3 of the Labor Code, sexual harassment at the workplace is an act of sexual nature of any person towards another person at the workplace that is not desired or accepted by that person.
This behavior is not only physical touch but can also be expressed through words, gestures, requests or unwanted forms of sexual communication, making the affected person feel uncomfortable and insecure.
Sharing after the training session, Ms. Dao Thi Bich Lien, quality management staff of Sakura Food Co., Ltd., said that previously she mainly thought of sexual harassment as behaviors that exceeded the limits in male-female relationships when not agreed upon.
However, through real-life situations, she realized that concepts like "only physical touch is harassment", "silence means agree" or "teasing a little is okay" are not correct.
Promoting the role of trade unions
According to Ms. Tran Thi Huong, Vice Chairwoman of the Khanh Hoa Provincial Labor Federation, in October, on the occasion of Vietnamese Women's Day, the unit implemented many communication activities to promote a safe and equal working environment for workers.
The Provincial Labor Federation organized 6 creative communication sessions at 5 grassroots trade unions (CĐCS) with a large number of female workers and a large-scale communication class for CĐCS officials, union members, and workers at Suoi Dau Industrial Park. The activities attracted more than 370 people from 48 businesses in the area. Workers were also guided on how to respond safely, store evidence and seek support when encountering sexual harassment situations at work.
Through the program, each trainee and grassroots trade union official will continue to spread knowledge to workers and colleagues, contributing to changing perceptions and behaviors. At the same time, trade union organizations promote the role of advising, accompanying, and protecting the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of union members and workers.
