Occupational safety and hygiene needs to start from risk prevention at the grassroots level
Vinh Long - Occupational safety and hygiene is focused on being implemented by trade union levels, consolidating the network of occupational safety and hygiene workers, and improving risk prevention skills.
Proactive prevention from the grassroots level
Occupational safety and health (OSH) is directly linked to the health, life and rights of workers (NLĐ). Proactively preventing risks and detecting unsafe risks in the workplace is an important task of trade union levels.
The safety and hygiene network (ATVSV) plays the role of guiding and reminding workers to comply with regulations, promptly detect and report unsafe risks for handling, contributing to limiting labor accidents.
At Ty Bach Co., Ltd., OSH work is implemented right from the stage of receiving new workers. Ms. Truong Thi Chau Uc - a company worker - said that workers are instructed on safety rules and how to use protective equipment before working.
With the specific characteristics of the garment industry, workers regularly come into contact with machinery, electrical equipment, sewing needles and perform repetitive operations. Therefore, even a small mistake can cause accidents, affecting health and production progress.

ATVSV regularly remind workers, detect unsafe risks and report for timely handling. In addition, the company organizes monthly training on machinery and equipment operation, coordinates risk assessment and review of processes.
According to Mr. Nguyen Hong Khit - Furukawa Automotive Systems Vinh Long Vietnam Co., Ltd., the 1st Excellent Safety and Hygiene Officer Contest in 2026 organized by the Provincial Labor Federation brings many useful knowledge and skills for workers.
Through the contest, workers improved their skills in identifying risks, handling incidents, first aid for labor accidents and fire prevention and fighting, thereby proactively protecting themselves and colleagues, contributing to building a safe working environment.
Consolidating networks, building a safe culture
According to the Vinh Long Provincial Labor Federation, implementing Directive 31-CT/TW of the Secretariat, trade union levels identify occupational safety and health (ATVSLĐ) as a regular task, associated with protecting the rights of workers (NLĐ).
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Dung - Vice President of the Provincial Labor Federation - said that the trade union organized 1,250 propaganda sessions, attracting over 105,000 union members and workers to participate; and at the same time issued and posted 18,000 communication materials.
Trade union levels organized 85 activities in response to the Action Month on OSH, 60 dialogues and seminars; 420 grassroots trade unions propagated OSH associated with Workers' Month. Trade unions participated in negotiating 421 collective labor agreements, proposing to 290 businesses to improve working conditions.
About 32,000 people were trained; 180 grassroots trade unions deployed a safe cultural model, proposing 650 initiatives and solutions. Through inspection of 480 businesses, 170 high-risk projects and areas, the trade union proposed to overcome 1,050 unsafe risks.

In the Action Month on OSH 2026, the Provincial Labor Federation organized 3 training classes for 360 grassroots trade union officials. Units coordinated with businesses to organize 562 training sessions for over 138,000 people, reaching over 92% of the total number of union members and workers in the labor-related sector.
The whole province has 612 projects and tasks on OSH attracting over 85,000 union members and workers to participate; 235 initiatives to improve working conditions have been applied, with an estimated profit value of over 12 billion VND. The safety and hygiene network has over 2,320 members, and 42 new networks have been established.
Grassroots trade unions need to continue to consolidate the network of safety and hygiene workers, improve professional skills in propaganda, supervision and risk warning. Businesses need to coordinate to improve working conditions, promote initiatives, apply digital technology, and promptly handle unsafe risks," Ms. Dung added.
