Defense - security cooperation is an important pillar of Vietnam - Laos relations

On October 13, at the Government Headquarters, Politburo Member, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung received General Khamlieng Outhakaisone, Politburo Member of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense of Laos, according to the Government Department of Information and Communications.

General Khamlieng Outhakaisone is on an official visit to Vietnam, attending the 10th Annual Meeting of Defence Ministers of Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia and witnessing the 5th Joint Military Defense Exercise between the three countries' armies.

Expressing joy at the positive development of the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos, the Prime Minister emphasized that defense and security cooperation is an important pillar of bilateral relations.

The Prime Minister highly appreciated the role of the Ministries of National Defense and the armies of the two countries in implementing high-level agreements, strengthening trust, contributing to maintaining a peaceful and stable environment to focus on socio-economic development; and believed that General Khamlieng Outhakaisone's visit would contribute to further concretizing the "strategic linkage" content between the two Ministries of National Defense and the armies of the two countries.

Highly appreciating the practical cooperation results in the past time, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung requested the two sides to continue to promote the effectiveness of cooperation mechanisms and agreements, consolidate political and strategic trust, strengthen sharing and protect each other's legitimate interests, coordinate to improve defense capabilities, promote defense industry cooperation and human resource training.

The Prime Minister also proposed to promote cooperation in political work, building strong armies between the two countries, truly being a loyal and absolutely reliable force of the Party, State and people of each country.

General Khamlieng Outhakaisone affirmed that the Lao Ministry of National Defense will continue to closely coordinate with the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense to effectively implement high-level agreements and agreements between the two Ministries, contributing to consolidating the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation, and strategic linkage between Laos and Vietnam.

The General emphasized that although the world and regional situation is developing complicatedly, the special relationship between Laos and Vietnam will always be sustainable, preserved and nurtured by the two Parties, two States, armies and peoples of the two countries.

In that spirit, the two sides will coordinate to prepare and organize well activities within the framework of "Year of Solidarity and Friendship 2027" to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the two countries, contributing to educating traditions and raising awareness for people, especially the young generation, about the special solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Laos.
