Turning Viettel's joint venture into a leading digital enterprise in Laos
The Prime Minister requested Unitel to take the lead in digital transformation, becoming a reliable technology partner of the Government, ministries, branches, and the Lao business community.
According to the Government Authority of Information and Communications, on the morning of October 9, during the official visit to Laos, Politburo Member, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and the high-level Vietnamese delegation visited and worked with Star Telecom Company (Unitel) - an investment project of the Military Industry - Telecommunications Group (Viettel) in Laos.
Speaking at the working session, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung sent best wishes and assessed Unitel as a leading enterprise of Laos, and also a vivid and typical symbol of the special cooperation relationship between the two Parties, two States, two armies and peoples of Vietnam - Laos.

After 17 years of operation in Laos, Unitel has become a leading telecommunications and digital technology enterprise in Laos, making practical contributions to socio-economic development, digital transformation and improving the lives of Lao people.
From an investment project, Unitel has become a symbol of friendship; from a telecommunications enterprise, the company is gradually developing strongly, becoming one of the leading enterprises in digital transformation, capable of accompanying the Lao Government in the country's development process," the Prime Minister said.
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung highly appreciated the spirit of the company's officials and employees throughout their operations in Laos: High determination to overcome difficulties and obstacles, solve problems; doing business but always associated with responsibility; developing businesses but at the same time contributing to society; Unitel's success must be associated with the development of the country and people of Laos. That is the way of doing things that needs to be further promoted to affirm Viettel's position and brand in Vietnam and investment areas.
In that spirit, the Prime Minister requested Unitel to focus on performing a number of tasks well in the new development phase.
First, continue to do business effectively, develop sustainably and absolutely comply with Lao law. Unitel must take production and business efficiency as the foundation, and at the same time contribute more and more to the budget and socio-economy of Laos; consider the development of the company associated with the development of the brotherly country of Laos.
Second, pioneering in digital transformation and building a digital society, becoming a reliable technology partner of the Government, ministries, branches, localities and the Lao business community. Unitel needs to participate more deeply in the process of building a digital government, digital economy and digital society of Laos; not just a simple service provider but must work with the Government to solve the country's major problems with technology and the capacity of Vietnamese and Lao people, making strong contributions to the process of economic restructuring, improving the capacity and competitiveness of the economy.

Third, promote innovation, new technologies and digital economy sectors. The company needs to boldly take the lead in new fields such as artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, digital finance, digital commerce, digital logistics and platforms serving people, creating long-term value products for people, businesses and the Government of Laos.
Fourth, pay special attention to human resource training for Laos. The Company needs to continue to train and foster the local staff, create conditions to master technology, master management and gradually take on important positions in the enterprise.
Fifth, continue to fulfill social responsibilities and contribute to the community. Unitel needs to continue to accompany localities, ministries, and sectors, supporting education, health, the poor, remote and isolated areas and those who still have difficulty accessing technology. That is not only the social responsibility of businesses but also the feelings of businesses and Vietnamese people towards the country and fraternal Lao people.
Wishing Unitel to excellently complete its tasks, the Prime Minister believes that, with a 17-year tradition of construction and development, with the attention of the Party, State, Government, Central Military Commission, Ministry of National Defense, army and people of the two countries, the company collective will continue to develop more strongly, striving to become a leading digital enterprise in Laos and a typical model for the effectiveness of Vietnam - Laos economic cooperation.
On the same day, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and Lao Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith visited the Laos - Vietnam Friendship Park, offered flowers to commemorate President Ho Chi Minh, President Kaysone Phomvihane, President Souphanouvong and planted memorial trees at the Park; Prime Minister Le Minh Hung visited the family and offered incense to commemorate the late Lao National Assembly Chairman Saysomphone Phomvihane.
