Prime Minister approves expansion of Vung Ang economic zone, Ha Tinh

Politburo Member, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc has just signed Decision No. 1918/QD-TTg dated October 2, 2026 of the Prime Minister approving the expansion of Vung Ang Economic Zone (EZ), Ha Tinh.

According to the decision, the scale of Vung Ang EZ, Ha Tinh province after expansion has an area of about 72,998ha, of which 57,998ha is mainland (including the entire area of communes/wards: Song Tri, Hai Ninh, Vung Ang, Hoanh Son, Ky Hoa, Ky Khang, Ky Anh, Ky Xuan and part of the area of Ky Van commune) and 15,000ha of sea surface.

The decision clearly states: Vung Ang EZ is a key, multi-sectoral, multi-field EZ with a focus on basic industry associated with the construction and effective exploitation of Vung Ang port area, Son Duong; regional, national and international railways and roads.

At the same time, it is an important economic center, a hub for transportation, trade and international exchange of the North Central region, an important gateway of Central, Upper Laos, Northeast Thailand to the Central region and Vietnam; it is a growth pole, closely and comprehensively linked to the common development of Ha Tinh province and the North Central region.

Besides, it is a comprehensive EZ, with modern and synchronous infrastructure as a driving force for development for the North Central region. It has links to support and share with Southeast Nghe An EZ, Hon La EZ and surrounding areas, which are areas of harmonious development of economic, cultural, environmental and national defense and security goals.

According to the approval, expand the boundaries and area of Vung Ang EZ, Ha Tinh province to create a land fund, development space and investment development in the future.

The goal is to develop Vung Ang EZ into a dynamic and key area of the North Central Economic Region; research and implement new models such as Free Trade Zones, creating breakthroughs to promote socio-economic development in Ha Tinh province and neighboring localities.

At the same time, strengthen links with economic zones, economic centers and development corridors in the region and on national and international traffic routes.

Building Vung Ang EZ with the pillars: Metallurgy industry, energy, processing, manufacturing; logistics and seaport service center; developing trade and services.

Synchronously develop the metallurgical industrial complex, supporting industries, processing and manufacturing, power center associated with the Vung Ang - Son Duong deep-water port cluster; ensuring comprehensive efficiency in socio-economic, national defense - security, and environmental protection.

Promote growth and economic restructuring and labor structure shift towards industrialization and modernization; gradually develop into a key development pole in the South of the province, linking the development of the South Ha Tinh - North Quang Tri region.

Develop high-quality logistics and transportation services, trade, information technology, tourism, education, health,... conveniently connecting with domestic and international markets, accelerating the urbanization process of the province.

Create more jobs, strengthen training and improve the quality of human resources.
