Bringing Vietnam - Cambodia economic cooperation to a new height

BẠCH DƯƠNG (báo lao động) 10/10/2026 08:58 (GMT+7)

The Prime Minister affirmed that the Government of Vietnam is committed to accompanying and supporting businesses investing in Cambodia, creating favorable conditions for Cambodian businesses in Vietnam.

On the afternoon of October 9, in Phnom Penh capital, Politburo Member, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet co-chaired and delivered directing speeches at the Vietnam - Cambodia Business Forum 2026.

Speaking at the Forum, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung stated clearly that Vietnam and Cambodia are two close neighboring countries; on the basis of the motto "good neighbors, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability", Vietnam - Cambodia relations are increasingly close, comprehensive, good and effective.

In the overall relationship between the two countries, economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries is an important pillar and has achieved many positive results. However, economic cooperation still has much room for stronger development, commensurate with the good political relations and potential of the two countries.

To bring economic cooperation between the two countries to a new height and commensurate with the current very good political relations, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung proposed a number of major orientations.

First, the two Governments, ministries and sectors continue to connect in terms of institutions and policies. The two Governments need to review and continue to simplify investment procedures, land, entry and exit, customs and quarantine; maintain periodic dialogues between the Governments and businesses of the two countries at least once a year at the level of government leaders or at the ministerial level so that all problems are listened to and handled thoroughly and promptly.

Second, connect infrastructure to connect the market. Prioritize highways, railways, and inland waterways connecting the two countries; in which, the progress of the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai - Bavet - Phnom Penh expressway will be accelerated; upgrade border gates, border markets and logistics centers; promote the "one-stop-shop" model at major border gate pairs, helping goods circulate faster, cheaper, and at lower costs.

Third, continue to cooperate according to the value chain in the fields of agriculture and processing. The two sides should not stop at buying and selling raw materials but need to jointly invest in raw material areas, deep processing, quality standards and traceability right in Cambodia so that Cambodian farmers can enjoy a greater added value.

Fourth, continue to promote financial - banking connectivity, expand payments in domestic currency, cross-border QR payments, create conditions for banks of the two countries to expand networks, provide capital for businesses and people; request Vietnamese commercial banks to continue to increase the consideration of lending to Vietnamese businesses investing in Cambodia.

Fifth, connecting new growth drivers such as digital transformation, e-commerce, renewable energy, power grid connection, tourism and high-quality human resource training.

Affirming that the Government is constructive, but businesses are the ones who directly turn opportunities into results, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung sent some messages to the business community.

First, long-term and responsible investment. The Prime Minister requested that Vietnamese businesses in Cambodia strictly comply with the laws of the host country, respect the culture and customs of the Cambodian people; prioritize the use and training of local human resources, protect the environment and actively contribute to the community where they invest.

Second, linking to become stronger together. Businesses of the two countries need to link more closely, jointly invest, jointly build supply chains, jointly develop products and jointly exploit third markets.

Third, compete by quality, technology and sustainability. Businesses of the two countries need to focus resources on projects with high added value, modern technology, environmentally friendly and scalable.

The Prime Minister affirmed that, with the spirit of "business develops, the country develops", the Vietnamese Government is committed to always accompanying and supporting businesses investing and doing business in Cambodia; welcoming and creating favorable conditions for Cambodian businesses to invest and do business in Vietnam.

At the Forum, under the witness of the two Prime Ministers, agencies and businesses of the two countries exchanged 5 cooperation documents, including 2 certificates of foreign investment registration adjusted for the planting and animal husbandry project of THACO AGRI in Kratie and Ratanakiri provinces with a total capital of 648 million USD.
