Ca Mau elderly people seek joy from intergenerational clubs

NHẬT HỒ (báo lao động) 02/10/2026 08:41 (GMT+7)

Elderly clubs in Ca Mau have become places to train health, socialize and connect generations in the community.

Where the elderly meet every day

At 5 am, Hung Vuong Square, Bac Lieu ward, Ca Mau, members of the Elderly Club practiced dưỡng sinh. The movements were maintained regularly, including members over 70 years old.

The club was established more than 20 years ago. Many members have been attached for a long time, practicing together, exchanging arts, participating in performances and competitions organized by the Elderly Association.

The head of the Bac Lieu Ward Elderly Club said that the members participate in training very regularly and enthusiastically. For many people, this is not only a health training activity but also an opportunity to meet and chat after family activities.

In Vinh Hau commune, the Intergenerational Self-Help Club also attracts about 50-60 members in each activity session. People check their weight and blood pressure; people chat and share experiences; people participate in arts performances.

The special point of the club is that members are of many ages. Ms. Ta Bich Luan has been participating for more than 10 years and sees this as a place for generations to meet and share.

“Club members are of varying ages, there are many elderly people and also many young people. This is a place for generations to connect with each other. I am very happy to be taught and share many valuable experiences by the elders,” Ms. Luan said.

From such activities, clubs create more space for the elderly to practice health, socialize and maintain spiritual life. With the intergenerational model, young people also have more opportunities to access and listen to experiences from predecessors.

Caring for the elderly to live happily and healthily

Ca Mau currently has more than 241,000 elderly people. In recent years, the province has focused on caring for the material, spiritual, and health life and implementing social security policies for the elderly.

In addition to care, the locality creates conditions for the elderly to participate in activities suitable to their health and ability. Many movements have the participation of the elderly such as labor, production, business; building new rural areas, civilized urban areas; environmental protection; preserving cultural identity; encouraging education, encouraging talent, and building cultural families.

Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, Chairman of the Ca Mau Provincial Association of the Elderly, said that elderly people with experience, intelligence and prestige can continue to contribute to their families, communities and localities.

At the ceremony to respond to the October Action Month for the Elderly, more than 300 elderly people in Tan Thanh, An Xuyen, Ly Van Lam and Hoa Thanh wards were consulted and given free health screenings.

The activity helps the elderly monitor their health status, detect common diseases early to have timely treatment directions.

Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ca Mau province, emphasized the need to build a social environment in which the elderly are respected, cared for and have conditions to promote their values.

From nursing and cultural clubs to intergenerational models, creating a suitable living space is helping the elderly have more conditions to take care of their health, socialize and connect with the community.
