Driver diligently drains nails for nearly 4 years to ensure safe traffic for people in Ho Chi Minh City
Ho Chi Minh City - For nearly 4 years, a driver in Ho Chi Minh City has been diligently roaming the roads with a self-made nail-collecting vehicle, hoping to bring safety to people.
That is the case of Mr. Phung Huu Hiep (born in 1981, in Lai Thieu ward, Ho Chi Minh City).
Working as a truck driver, Mr. Phung Huu Hiep understands best the feeling of danger when the vehicle runs over nails or sharp pieces of iron in the middle of the road, especially at night, a sudden tire burst due to nails falling on the road can lead to an accident.
Concerned about the dangers lurking in front of pedestrians, Mr. Hiep has painstakingly designed, welded iron boxes and then attached magnets to manufacture nails suction carts. Taking advantage of rest periods or after working shifts, he pulls his self-made nails suction cart along major and minor roads to suction nails.

After nearly 4 years of persistent silence, the number of nails, screws and sharp metal fragments he collected amounted to more than 4 tons. Sitting next to a plastic container filled with thousands of sharp spindle-shaped metal fragments, Mr. Hiep turned his rough hands to open each small piece of iron with a messy saw edge.
Daily production activities still cause nails and sharp metal fragments to spill onto the road. If not collected, these sharp metal fragments will embezzle and accidentally puncture tires of road users. Lightly, people have to walk hard, heavyly, they may have accidents. Therefore, taking advantage of free time, I pull the tire to suck nails, hoping people can travel more safely" - Mr. Hiep shared.

Currently, Mr. Hiep still keeps more than 30 kg of sharp thoi-shaped metal fragments. "These are metal fragments on the road that I collected. These nail fragments may have been intentionally spread by nail thieves on some roads" - Mr. Hiep said.
Realizing that the area was vast and he could not handle the review alone, Mr. Hiep also manufactured nails suction machines to transfer to neighborhoods or enthusiastic individuals in Thuan An, Di An, Tan Uyen areas. Mr. Hiep said that to date, he has manufactured and transferred more than 40 nails suction machines of all kinds.
Every day, seeing the road I just passed clear of sharp and dangerous metal bars, and people traveling safely, I am happy" - Mr. Hiep shared.
Mr. Hiep's actions are loved by local people. Every time they see a nail-collecting truck passing by, many people buy drinking water to give and motivate Mr. Hiep. "Mr. Hiep's work has been happening regularly in recent years. Cach Mang Thang Tam street, Nguyen Van Tiet street, National Highway 13 and many other streets are cleaner and safer" - Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hai (40 years old, a resident of Lai Thieu ward) shared.
Recognizing this silent action, Binh Nham Ward People's Committee, Thuan An City People's Committee previously, Binh Duong Provincial People's Committee previously awarded certificates of merit, certificates of commendation to encourage and commend Mr. Phung Huu Hiep.
