Caring for and promoting the role of the elderly is the responsibility of the whole society
On the morning of October 1st, in Hai Phong, the Vietnam Association of the Elderly jointly organized the launching ceremony of the Action Month for the Elderly in Vietnam 2026.
The launching ceremony of the Action Month for the Elderly in Vietnam 2026 with the theme "The community joins hands to integrate care for the elderly in the aging population trend" was organized by the Vietnam Association of the Elderly in coordination with the Ministry of Health and Hai Phong City People's Committee. Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Committee for the Elderly of Vietnam Pham Thi Thanh Tra attended and directed the ceremony.

Speaking to direct, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra emphasized that the elderly are not only the beneficiaries of care policies, but more importantly, "valuable capital", the subject and important endogenous resource of the country.
Population aging is becoming a global trend, not only a problem for the elderly but also related to each family, community and the future of the country. Therefore, Vietnam needs to shift from response thinking to proactive preparation and adaptation; from simple care to comprehensive care; from approaching the elderly mainly as beneficiaries to both protecting, caring for, and creating conditions for the elderly to continue contributing.

Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra said that the theme of the Action Month 2026 sets out the requirement that care for the elderly must be more comprehensive, more linked, more proactive and closer to life.
Integrated care does not only stop at health care but also includes spiritual life, social security, safety, communication needs, culture, sports, rehabilitation and social participation of the elderly. This is also not the sole responsibility of a sector, a level or an organization, but the common responsibility of the family, state, community and the whole society.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested all levels and sectors to focus on raising awareness and responsibility for the work of the elderly; placing this task in the overall socio-economic development policy, ensuring social security and improving the quality of people's lives. In which, special attention should be paid to elderly people who are poor, lonely, disabled, without shelter, elderly people in remote and isolated areas, ethnic minority areas and difficult cases.
Localities strengthen primary health care, health management, rehabilitation, long-term care; proactively prevent and handle acts of violence, abuse, infringement, fraud, and infringement of the legitimate rights and interests of the elderly. At the same time, create an environment for the elderly to continue to promote their intelligence, experience and prestige to participate appropriately in economic, social, cultural, educational, scientific, environmental protection, security and order maintenance and community building activities.

For Hai Phong City, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra requested the city to continue to promote the pioneering spirit, build and replicate civilized and modern models of elderly care, creating an environment for the elderly to live healthy, happily, safely and continue to contribute to the city.
At the conference, the Organizing Committee presented gifts to typical elderly people; honored organizations and individuals who have contributed to the cause of protecting, caring for and promoting the role of the elderly.
