Conference between the Vietnam Farmers' Union and the Cuban Small Farmers' Association

Mr. Luong Quoc Doan - Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union and Mr. Félix Duartes Ortega, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Chairman of the Cuban Small Farmers' Association chaired the conference.

According to Mr. Luong Quoc Doan, in the past time, Vietnam - Cuba relations have continued to be consolidated and developed in many fields, including cooperation and exchange between socio-political organizations and mass organizations of the two countries.

With the role of a socio-political organization of the peasant class, the Vietnam Farmers' Union is very honored to contribute to fostering the special friendly relationship between Vietnam and Cuba through people-to-people diplomacy activities, while strengthening friendly relations, cooperation and solidarity with the Cuban Small Farmers' Union.

In 2024, the Vietnam Farmers' Union welcomed a delegation of leaders of the Cuban Small Farmers' Union led by Comrade Félix Duartes Ortega to visit and work in Vietnam. Also in 2024, the Chairman of the Central Vietnam Farmers' Union led a working delegation during a visit and working trip to Cuba.

Based on those cooperation results, the two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation, an Appendix to the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation for the period 2025 - 2030, creating an important basis to continue to maintain exchange, share experiences and implement cooperation activities suitable to the functions and tasks of each organization.

In the field of agriculture, the two countries have also had close coordination, Vietnam has sent many experts to Cuba to share experience in organizing production, especially rice production, the results achieved are very successful.

Chairman of the Cuban Small Farmers' Association Félix Duartes Ortega expressed his desire for the Vietnam Farmers' Association to exchange and share experiences in organizing activities, consulting, supporting farmers and developing the collective economy.

Mr. Luong Quoc Doan also provided preliminary information about the results of the IX Congress of the Vietnam Farmers' Union with the Cuban Small Farmers' Union. Based on Resolution XIV of the Party, the IX Congress of the Vietnam Farmers' Union included tasks and solutions to be implemented in the 2026-2030 term.

Accordingly, the Vietnam Farmers' Union will focus on 5 major tasks and solutions: Focusing on innovating, gathering, and uniting farmers; focusing on innovating emulation movements, associated with the specific interests of farmers; focusing on transitioning from pure production to production according to the value chain; strengthening service consulting and support activities for farmers; implementing supervision and criticism at the grassroots level.

After more than 2 hours of sharing and exchanging information, leaders of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union and the Cuban Small Farmers' Association agreed that the two sides continue to maintain flexible forms of cooperation, suitable to actual conditions, including organizing online conferences, professional exchanges, information sharing and organizing working delegations when conditions permit. Thereby, gradually concretizing the contents of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation for the period 2025 - 2030, bringing the relationship between the two organizations to become increasingly deeper, more practical and effective.
