The 2026 Golden Globe Awards announced 17 typical candidates from many strategic technology fields, continuing to select the 10 most outstanding young scientists.
On October 12, the Center for Science, Technology and Young Talent Development (Central Youth Union) announced the list of 17 typical candidates in the Top 20 Golden Globe Awards for Science and Technology in 2026. From this list, the Award Council will continue to evaluate and select the 10 most outstanding faces.
In the field of digital technology, the two candidates selected are Vu Thi Hanh, Head of Technology, Engineering - Lab of Viettel Academy and Hy Truong Son, Assistant Professor at Alabama University at Birmingham (USA).
In the field of next-generation mobile network technology, network security and quantum technology, there is Nguyen Ngoc Phien, Director of the Informatics Center, Ton Duc Thang University.
In the field of robotics and automation technology, the three candidates include Nguyen Thi Van Anh, Nguyen Duc Thuan, lecturers at the Faculty of Automation, Electrical and Electronics School, Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Thai Mai Thanh, lecturer at the Institute of Engineering and Computer Science, VinUni University.
In the fields of biomedical, pharmaceutical and applied biology technology, there are Luong Xuan Huy, lecturer at Hanoi University of Science and Technology; Tran Dieu Linh, researcher at the Institute of Advanced Technology, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology; Le Huu Tho, lecturer at the University of Science, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City.
In the field of environmental technology and sustainable development, the candidates are Dinh Viet Cuong, senior lecturer at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering; Nguyen Huu Duc Ton, researcher at Can Tho University; Ton Nu Quynh Trang, lecturer at the University of Science, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City.
The remaining fields include energy technology and advanced materials with Cao Le Anh Kiet, assistant professor at Hiroshima University (Japan); semiconductor chip technology with Duong Ngoc Thanh, lecturer at Phenikaa University.
In the field of aerospace technology, the two candidates are Nguyen Dong Nhat, an expert at the Netherlands Institute for Applied Science Research, and Nguyen Van Thuong, a lecturer at the University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. In the field of high-speed railway and urban railway technology, there is Tran Le Hung, lecturer at Gustave Eiffel University (France).
According to the Organizing Committee, 2026 marks an innovation of the Golden Globe Awards when for the first time applying a new regulation, expanding from 5 to 10 areas of selection, closely following the national strategic technology development orientation and Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo.
10 fields include digital technology; next-generation mobile networks, network and quantum security; robotics and automation; biomedicine, pharmaceuticals and applied biology; energy and advanced materials; semiconductor chips; environment and sustainable development; seas, oceans and underground; aviation and space; high-speed railways and urban railways.
This year, the Organizing Committee received 77 applications from 51 agencies, units, schools, research institutes and businesses, of which 71 applications were valid. Four fields were first included in the selection, including semiconductor chips; sea, ocean and underground; aviation and space; high-speed railways and urban railways, attracting 11 valid applications.
The new regulations supplement the Top 20 selection round, complete the evaluation criteria, strengthen the requirements for scientific integrity and prevention of conflicts of interest. Candidates are evaluated based on research achievements, scientific publications, patents, product application capacity and potential contributions to the community.
The Award Council is expected to hold its second session at the end of October 2026 to select the 10 most outstanding young scientists and submit them to the Secretariat of the Central Youth Union to award the 2026 Golden Globe Award for Science and Technology.
