Flexible time work dominates the choice of young workers
Can Tho - Many young workers currently prioritize flexible jobs that allow them to proactively choose shifts and arrange personal schedules.
Proactive schedule, diverse income
The reality of the labor market in recent times shows that the trend of prioritizing flexible time is especially suitable for people who need to take care of their families, are studying or need to do more jobs at the same time to increase income. Instead of being constrained in an industrial environment with fixed hours, many young people are willing to switch to forms of work that allow self-management of time.
After quitting his work as a worker at a production workshop due to time constraints and overtime pressure, Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan (23 years old, Phuoc Thoi ward, Can Tho city) decided to switch to working as a technology car driver combined with delivery.
“Previously, working as a worker, discipline and working hours were quite strict, almost no personal time left. Switching to this new job, although income depends on the level of diligence, I am completely proactive in registering for shifts, making it easier to arrange family matters and much more free,” Mr. Tuan shared.
Sharing the same choice, Ms. Pham Thien Nghi (25 years old, O Mon ward, Can Tho city) currently works as a part-time salesperson at a convenience store chain, and also takes freelance jobs in the evening.
Flexible work helps me proactively allocate time to learn new skills and do many things at the same time. If I only confine myself to a fixed position but the remuneration is not commensurate and there is a lack of a clear development roadmap, it is very difficult for young people to stick with it for a long time," Ms. Nghi said.
Shift of career choice thinking
Recognizing this shift, Master of Public Policy Nguyen Tuan Anh - Saigon Industry Corporation - analyzed that previously, a stable job with a relatively high salary and full insurance was quite attractive. But for young workers today, salary is still very important but no longer the only factor.
Workers at factories often have to work in shifts, comply with production discipline and work in an industrial environment. When placed next to service, sales, delivery or relatively flexible forms of labor in terms of time, work in factories is sometimes less attractive to young people.
According to the Can Tho City Employment Service Center, trade - services and logistics are 2 of the industry groups with high recruitment demand at the end of the year and the Lunar New Year 2027.
For the group of commerce, retail and food services (F&B), supermarket systems, convenience store chains, consumer goods distribution, restaurants, and hotels are promoting the recruitment of sales staff, cashiers, warehouse workers and seasonal workers.
In the group of transportation, logistics and delivery services, the boom in e-commerce during year-end shopping drives the demand for recruiting delivery staff, technology transport drivers, warehouse assistants and cargo coordinators.
To ensure rights when participating in the labor market, the Can Tho City Employment Service Center reminds workers to proactively access information through official and safe channels; pay special attention to the legality of contracts and long-term welfare regimes; and prepare dossiers carefully and proactively connect with reputable recruitment units.
