Humanity in floods

HỮU LONG (báo lao động) 01/01/2026 15:12 (GMT+7)

Historic floods, causing many families to lose everything, but also brightening up the love of compatriots.

The timely direction and commitment of the armed forces, local authorities and journalists have contributed to creating a warm picture of sharing and resilience of the people of the Central region.

Urgent instructions in floods

From November 17 to 22, Khanh Hoa and many South Central provinces will suffer prolonged heavy rains, causing serious flooding. River and stream water levels rose above historical levels; many places in Nha Trang and Dien Khanh were submerged in water. Heavy rain, combined with unexpected factors, left people unable to react. Cries for help in the middle of the night continuously appeared on social networks, clearly reflecting the severity of the natural disaster.

In that situation, thousands of police officers, soldiers, soldiers and social forces quickly took action. The image of soldiers wade through the flood and rain, rushing into the rushing water to save people made many people feel emotions. The advancement of the armed forces became a solid support for the people in times of life and death.

Along with the forces that are staying in the area day and night, the Provincial Party Committee and the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province immediately switched to a combat mode, hotly handling any arising issues. Decisions and instructions were given right at the scene, helping the rescue - relief work and support for people to take place as quickly and effectively as possible.

On the night of November 19 and early morning of November 20, Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Secretary Nghiem Xuan Thanh and the working delegation were present at the vulnerable areas that suffered heavy damage in Van Ninh, Dien Khanh and Nha Trang. The direct appearance of local leaders at a difficult time helped the armed forces grasp the spirit of close direction, thereby urgently deploying rescue and relief for those still stuck.

Not only was the flood heavily flooded, the flood also caused serious landslides on many key traffic routes, causing Khanh Hoa to be cut off from neighboring provinces. Notably, at Khanh Le Pass (National Highway 27C connecting Nha Trang - Da Lat), many landslides occurred consecutively, one of which caused passenger cars to be buried by rocks and soil.

Faced with the alarming situation, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung directly went to the South Central region, including Khanh Hoa, to inspect and direct the overcoming of the consequences. His request was to conduct a field inspection at the site of a serious landslide on Khanh Le Pass - where an incident had just occurred that crushed a passenger bus.

To ensure absolute safety for the working group, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phu - Director of the Department of Construction of Khanh Hoa province - visited the station and surveyed each location to determine the safest standing point but still accurately reflected the level of danger of landslides.

After choosing a suitable location, the Government working group and leaders of ministries, branches and localities moved through the white rain pass. At that time, everyone was worried about their own safety. However, everyone understands their responsibility towards the safety of the people, so everyone is committed - Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phu recalled.

Journalists overcome floods to update hot flood news

During the days of floods, besides the government and rescue forces, the team of journalists also became a shock force. They are present at deeply flooded areas, vulnerable locations or isolated areas to quickly and accurately convey news to readers nationwide.

Few people know that, in the midst of working in harsh conditions, many journalists are victims of floods. They both ran the flood to save their family and tried to maintain information.

Some reporters such as Ky Nam (Lao Dong Newspaper), Xuan Hoat (Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper), Van Ngoc (Thanh Nien Newspaper) have been surrounded by floodwaters, some have been out of contact for many days. Some people were forced to break the door and swim outside to save themselves and their loved ones.

After the water receded, their entire assets in their homes were almost lost. However, no one allowed me to rest. They immediately returned to work, even working at a much higher intensity than before the flood. Because more than anyone else, they are the ones involved - the ones who have experienced a sense of despair when losing contact, when witnessing their assets being swept away. That helps them be more sensitive to the people's situation and clearly understand the need for timely information.

Not only reporting, Khanh Hoa journalists also accompany volunteer groups, mobilize and directly distribute necessities to people in flooded areas. In many relief groups, people saw images of reporters whose houses were still flooded, and had not yet been cleaned up, but had set out to help people in more difficult circumstances than themselves.

The recent historic floods, despite causing heavy damage, also left many beautiful images: Police soldiers and soldiers are not afraid of danger to rescue people; local leaders directly stay at the scene at night; journalists overcome the flood to report and join hands in relief; people in mountainous and low-lying areas are ready to open doors for each other to take shelter.

Natural disasters have tested Khanh Hoa and the Central provinces, but humanity has helped everyone stand firm. Through the flood, each person has better understood the value of solidarity, sharing and the spirit of "the healthy leaves cover the torn leaves" which have been the bond that has connected the Vietnamese community for generations.
