The National Assembly deserves to be a vibrant representative of the great national unity bloc
This morning (January 6), a national celebration took place in Hanoi to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the first general election to elect the National Assembly of Vietnam (January 6, 1946 - January 6, 2026).
The National Assembly has increasingly clearly demonstrated its role as a step ahead of the institutions
Speaking at the ceremony, General Secretary To Lam said that exactly 80 years ago, responding to the call of beloved President Ho Chi Minh, on January 6, 4, for the first time in the history of the nation, Vietnamese people aged 18 and over, regardless of gender, social class, ethnicity, religion or political opinion, directly held ballots to select those who represented them to the highest State power body.
In the context of the country having just gained independence, the revolutionary government being young and hated by the foreign invaders, the General Election was still organized democratically, publicly, seriously and successfully, with the participation rate of up to 89%.
The results of the election of 333 National Assembly deputies clearly reflect the wide representation, the spirit of great national unity, with the participation of Party groups, social classes, ethnic groups and religions of all three regions of the North - Central - South - General Secretary To Lam emphasized.
According to the General Secretary, the General Election of 1946 was held according to the most progressive democratic principles: Publicity, equality, direct and secret ballot.
That historic event became a brilliant milestone, marking the first leap forward in the democratic institutions of the new State of Vietnam, affirming a great truth: State power belongs to the people.

The victory of the first General Election is not only the result of patriotism, the will of independence and freedom of the nation, but also a vivid testament to the correct and creative revolutionary guidelines of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh, opening a new period in the history of building the State of the people, by the people and for the people.
According to the General Secretary, after 80 years of accompanying the nation and 15 terms of operation, the National Assembly of Vietnam has continuously matured and grown, affirming its role as the center of national political and legal life, a constitutional institution that holds a key position in building and perfecting the Socialist Republic of Vietnam's rule of law state.
In the field of constitution making and legislation, the National Assembly has issued 5 different foundations, associated with major turning points in the Vietnamese revolution.
In particular, the 15th National Assembly's approval of the Resolution amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Constitution has marked a new development step in the history of establishing a two-level, delegating a two-level local government organization model, streamlining the apparatus, improving the effectiveness and efficiency of national governance, meeting development requirements in the new period of the country.

The Supreme Supervisory activities of the National Assembly and its agencies are constantly being innovated, in-depth, focusing on major and pressing issues of socio-economic life, closely linked to the legitimate thoughts and aspirations of the people.
In addition, the National Assembly has clearly demonstrated political mettle, collective intelligence and high sense of responsibility before the people and history, with many timely and correct decisions on socio-economic development, national defense, security, foreign affairs, organizational structure and senior personnel of the State.
Continue to improve the quality of questioning activities
Throughout that 18-year journey, the National Assembly has always been closely connected with the people, listened to the voices of the people, faithfully reflected the will and aspirations of the people, worthy of being the vivid representative of the great national unity bloc, the highest representative body of the people, the highest State power body of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
For Vietnam to become a developed, strong, prosperous and happy country, according to General Secretary To Lam, the role of the National Assembly in creating development institutions is of special importance.
Without institutional and legal breakthroughs; without a brave, intelligent, drastic and responsible National Assembly, those great goals will hardly become a reality, said the General Secretary.

The General Secretary said that the National Assembly needs to continue promoting the glorious 8-year tradition, taking a step forward in institutions, bravely deciding on difficult issues, new things, and unprecedented areas; paving the way for innovation, for rapid and sustainable development of the country.
In addition, General Secretary To Lam suggested that the National Assembly should continue to build the National Assembly to truly be the highest State power body, promoting democracy, rule of law, modernity, professionalism; publicity, transparency, effectiveness, and efficiency in organization and operation.
Continue to strongly innovate legislative thinking, in the direction of creating and leading development. Promote strategic breakthroughs, create a new development ecosystem; focus on perfecting and synchronizing institutions for rapid and sustainable national development.
At the same time, fundamental innovation, improving the quality and efficiency of legislative activities, ensuring national governance through the Constitution and law, meeting the requirements of international integration.
In addition, improve the quality of supervision, consider supervision as a creative tool, promote development, link "build" with "rule", taking " build" as a fundamental, long-term thing. Continue to improve the quality of questioning, explaining, and supervising legal documents; focus on monitoring, reviewing, and urging the implementation of recommendations after supervision; strictly implement the collection of the National Assembly's votes of confidence.
