Dien Bien accelerates DNA sampling, helping martyrs return to their families soon

From July 24 to 26, Dien Bien Provincial Police deployed a 500-day and night peak campaign to collect DNA biological samples from relatives of martyrs, contributing to the work of identifying martyrs with unclear information.

Currently, Dien Bien province still has 264 martyrs whose identities have not been identified. The provincial police are organizing the collection of DNA biological samples from 437 relatives of martyrs at 10 locations in the area.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien, younger brother of martyr Nguyen Van Thuc (Sam Mun commune, Dien Bien province), said that his family has been searching for a relative's grave for many years but has not had results.

Taking DNA samples this time brings more hope to quickly identify the identity and bring the martyr's brother back to his homeland and family.

On the first day of deployment, the collection point at Muong Ang Commune Police completed the sampling for 70 relatives of martyrs in Bung Lao, Muong Lan, Muong Ang and Na Tau communes.

On July 25, activities continued to be organized at Tuan Giao, Tua Chua, Muong Luan, Na Son and Truc An Guesthouse (Dien Bien Phu ward), with a total of hundreds of relatives participating, of which Truc An Guesthouse had the largest number with 135 cases.

To make the campaign effective, Dien Bien Provincial Police have developed a plan, coordinated with local authorities and mass organizations to review and make a list of relatives eligible for sample collection.

Officers and soldiers directly go to each family to propagate the meaning of collecting DNA biological samples, guide the completion of dossiers and mobilize people to participate.

The implementation process faced many difficulties because many relatives of martyrs were old, with weak health, limited travel, or no longer kept complete information about martyrs.

However, with the coordination of localities and the consensus of the people, the work of reviewing, verifying and collecting samples is still carried out on schedule, ensuring process and quality.

According to Dien Bien Provincial Police, each collected DNA biological sample will supplement a database for testing and identifying martyrs, thereby contributing to helping families have more opportunities to find their loved ones who have sacrificed.

The campaign is being implemented until the end of July 26, expressing gratitude to heroic martyrs and continuing to spread the morality of "When drinking water, remember the source", "Gratitude" of the nation.
