Metro line No. 5 in Hanoi continuously has new construction milestones

Tô Thế (báo lao động) 26/07/2026 15:52 (GMT+7)

Hanoi - Important items of metro line No. 5 have been continuously deployed in recent days.

In just a few days, the urban railway project No. 5, Van Cao - Ngoc Khanh - Lang - Hoa Lac (metro No. 5) continuously recorded important construction milestones.

From the deployment of the first fence, completing the first steel cage at Station S3 (Vanh Dai 1 Station) to the commencement of Station S1 (Quan Ngua Station), the project is gradually moving to the synchronous construction phase of key items.

Continuously establishing important construction milestones

According to the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board (MRB), the unit and the EPC Contractor Consortium have officially deployed the construction of the first fence at S3 Station. This is the first item of the underground structure, marking the project entering the construction phase of complex technical items after completing preparation work.

Station S3 is located at the Nguyen Chi Thanh - Ring Road 1 intersection, is an underground station with a two-story structure, constructed using open excavation method with a length of about 220m and a width of about 20m. The surrounding wall has a design depth of about 42m, thickness of 1m, playing the role of the main covering structure, ensuring geological stability, waterproofing and creating conditions for the construction of underground items below.

Immediately after deploying this item, by 2:00 AM on July 24, MRB continued to complete the lowering of the first steel cage of the fence system at Station S3. This is a very high-required technical item with a 42m long steel cage weighing more than 38.5 tons. The construction process requires synchronous coordination between two track axle cranes with lift capacity of 500 tons and 180 tons.

Continuing the construction milestones at Station S3, MRB also started construction of Station S1 from July 23. According to MRB, the deployment of the first station of the line shows that the project is entering the synchronous construction phase of key items with many construction fronts simultaneously.

S1 station is built in the southern area of the Hoang Hoa Tham - Van Cao intersection, not only is it the first station of the line but it is also planned to become a transshipment station with metro line No. 2 in the future, contributing to the formation of an interconnected public transport network of the Capital.

The continuous deployment of important items in a short time shows that metro line No. 5 has shifted from the preparation phase to the field construction phase with a clearer pace, creating a foundation to accelerate the progress of subsequent items.

Solving the construction problem in existing urban areas

Accompanying the progress milestones are a series of technical challenges when many stations of metro line No. 5 are built in densely populated urban areas, with many existing works and important transport infrastructure.

At Station S3, the construction site is parallel and intersects the ground with the overpass project of Ring Road 1. The construction scope of piers T3, T4 overlaps with the material gathering area, steel core processing, bentonite solution treatment station and part of the station's construction area.

To ensure the progress of both key projects, MRB and the Hanoi City Civil Engineering Construction Investment Project Management Board have regularly reviewed and adjusted the construction order, unified the site organization plan and handled technical interfaces.

According to Mr. Dang Viet Trung - Deputy Head of MRB, the coordination between the two projects not only helps optimize the limited construction site but also ensures quality, general progress and maintains the highest safety standards for people.

Meanwhile, Station S1 faces another challenge when it is located near Hoang Hoa Tham overpass, the distance from the dug pit to the bridge foundation is only about 5.5m.

Therefore, the project has applied grade I basement pit deformation protection - the highest level according to technical standards, and at the same time synchronously deployed foundation reinforcement solutions with cement earth piles (CDM), weak soil foundation treatment and automatic monitoring system to continuously monitor subsidence, positioning as well as technical parameters throughout the construction process.

According to MRB, all items are being implemented with strict technical control, construction safety, traffic safety and minimizing impacts on people as well as neighboring projects.

The above milestones show the determination of the Investor and contractors in bringing the route No. 5 project to a synchronous construction phase, with many deployment teams simultaneously.

We will continue to closely coordinate with contractors and relevant agencies to ensure progress, quality and regularly update information during the project implementation process," Mr. Dang Viet Trung said.
