The Ministry of Construction will decide to name and rename the national railway line and station

The Government has just issued Decree No. 16/2026/ND-CP detailing a number of articles of the Railway Law.

Article 6 mentions the naming and renaming of railway lines and stations:

- Principles for naming and renaming railway lines and station names:

The name of the railway line is named after the starting point and ending point of the line or named after a serial number or continuous character. The starting point and ending point is the name of the place where the starting and ending stations of the line are located;

A branch railway line connecting to the main railway line, the starting point of this branch railway line is calculated at the location connecting to the main railway line;

The station name is given according to the place name, names of historical figures, national heroes, and names of historical and cultural relics at the station location, in alphabetical order or characters;

Line names must not coincide with other lines on the Vietnamese railway system. Railway station names on the same railway line must not coincide. Line and railway station names must be consistent with national cultural identity, fine customs and traditions of the locality where the line and station are located and the country; ensuring conciseness, easy understanding, and easy remembering.

The naming of newly built railway lines and stations is determined in the stage of planning railway lines and stations or in the stage of preparing the Project Pre-feasibility Study Report or the Project Feasibility Study Report.

- Authority to name and rename existing railway lines and stations:

The Ministry of Construction decides to name and rename the national railway line and station based on the proposal of the project investor or the project owner;

The Provincial People's Council decides to name and rename local railway lines and stations under its management scope based on the proposal of the project investor or the project owner;

Investors decide to name and rename specialized railway lines and stations invested by themselves.

Article 7 stipulates putting railway lines and railway stations into operation:

Railway lines and railway stations when put into operation must be inspected and handed over construction works in accordance with the law on construction.

High-speed railways, level 1 railways, newly built or upgraded urban railways before being put into operation must be evaluated and certified for system safety according to the provisions of railway law.

The owner or organization assigned to manage railway infrastructure assets decides to put into operation the railway line or station on the railway invested and managed by themselves.
