Promoting rapid and sustainable development of the country

On the morning of April 7, with 495/495 National Assembly deputies participating in the vote in favor (100%), the 16th National Assembly passed a Resolution to elect General Secretary To Lam to hold the position of President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the term 2026-2031.

After the oath-taking ceremony, President To Lam delivered an inaugural speech.

In the sacred and solemn moment of the inauguration ceremony of the President, I sincerely thank voters and people across the country for their sense of responsibility, aspiration to build their homeland and country, and steadfast belief in the Communist Party of Vietnam for making the election of National Assembly deputies of the 16th term and People's Council deputies at all levels for the 2026-2031 term very successful" - General Secretary and President opened his speech.

According to General Secretary and President To Lam, this is a convergence from the thousands of years of civilization of the nation, fostering heroic spirit and strong determination to realize the two 100-year strategic goals so that by 2045 Vietnam becomes a developed country with high income, in the direction of socialism, peace, independence, democracy, prosperity, civilization, and happiness.

I deeply realize that taking on the responsibility of General Secretary and President is an extremely great honor, a sacred and noble responsibility and obligation, and also the trust and expectation of the entire Party, people, and army towards the heads of the Party and State" - General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized.

General Secretary and President To Lam said that he will join the entire Party, the entire people, the entire army, especially the Central Executive Committee collective, to take the revolutionary ship through all storms and waves, and soon reach the finish line, fulfilling the wishes of President Ho Chi Minh and the aspirations of the nation.

The entire Party and people of our country unite and strive to build a peaceful, unified, independent, democratic and prosperous Vietnam, making worthy contributions to the revolutionary cause of the world.

In the context of a situation with many contemporary challenges, the country has implemented many strategic policies with major goals of historical significance, the top priority in the position of General Secretary and President is to maintain a peaceful and stable environment, promote rapid and sustainable development of the country, improve all aspects of people's lives so that people can enjoy all achievements of development; increase Vietnam's contribution to peace, stability, development, and regional and world progress.

We cannot let the people lose the opportunity to develop.

General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed that together with the entire Party, the entire people, and the entire army, focus on building a socialist rule-of-law state; building an independent, self-reliant, and self-strengthening economy; a comprehensive and modern national defense and security; a streamlined, effective, and efficient political system; a united, cultural, and humane society; and building a new development ecosystem.

At the same time, implementing strategic autonomy taking development for stability, stability for rapid and sustainable development of the country; establishing a new growth model with science and technology, innovation and digital transformation as the main driving force. Building a modern education system, comprehensively developing Vietnamese people, developing high-quality and highly qualified human resources to meet development requirements in the new period.

Along with that, perfecting the model of mechanisms and policies for managing and developing a modern, comprehensive, inclusive, and sustainable society. Building discipline, responsibility, and enforcement discipline, saying and doing, doing to the end, doing for the people, and the results of work must be effective and substantive throughout the entire political system.

General Secretary and President To Lam also said that he will deploy new heights in foreign affairs and international integration, making more effective contributions to the country's strategic goals and showing greater responsibility for peace and development in the world.

With the motto of ensuring the highest national interests - nation, taking peace, independence, self-reliance, and self-strengthening as the foundation, placing the people at the center of all policies, considering contributions to the international community as a responsibility, bringing our country into harmony with the flow of world politics, international economy and human civilization.

Complete and implement the strategy of national defense, the national security strategy to meet the requirements of the task of protecting the Fatherland and protecting national security in the new era.

Prioritize strengthening potential, implementing national defense and security strategic autonomy; building revolutionary, regular, elite, and modern armed forces, capable of proactively eliminating all dangers early and from afar and firmly protecting the Fatherland, protecting national security in all situations.

Strengthening a peaceful and stable environment, security and order, discipline, safety, and health at a high level, contributing to regional and world peace and stability.

In performing the task of General Secretary, President To Lam said that the top priority is to thoroughly grasp and practice the viewpoint "the people are the root", strongly promote the role of the people as the subjects, promote the strength of the people and the great national unity bloc. The highest and final goal is for the people to enjoy the fruits of development.

General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed his determination not to let the country fall behind, not to let the people lose the opportunity to develop and act for the long-term and bright future of the nation; with the support and assistance of international friends, Vietnam must definitely continue to write brilliant new chapters in the development journey, completing the strategic goals set out.
