Brave male student saves drowning person awarded Certificate of Merit by Prime Minister

On October 11, the Department of Education and Training of Quang Tri province confirmed that the unit had organized the awarding of the Prime Minister's Certificate of Merit to Le Duc Trung (17 years old, residing in Cua Tung commune), a student of Cua Tung High School, for his courageous act of rescuing a drowning person at Da Nhay beach.

Receiving the noble award, Trung felt honored and proud when his work was recognized. What made him happier was that after the incident, Ms. Pham Thi Thuong (residing in Nam Hong Linh ward, Ha Tinh province) and her children returned to Quang Tri to visit Trung's family.

I feel very happy, last summer I also took the opportunity to practice swimming to gain more experience. This time I focused on studying subjects at school" - Trung shared.

Previously, at about 2 pm on June 21, while eating with his family at a beachfront restaurant Da Nhay (Bac Trach commune, Quang Tri province), Trung heard desperate cries for help when Ms. Thuong's two young children were playing near the shore when they were suddenly swept away by large waves.

Trung and his relatives immediately ran down to the sea to rescue people. While relatives brought a child ashore, baby girl N.K.A (born 2017) was swept away by the whirlpool about 80 - 100m from the shore.

Not having time to take off his shirt, Trung rushed into the sea, overcoming big waves to approach the little girl who was gradually exhausted. Thanks to his swimming skills trained since childhood, he helped his niece safely across the fast-flowing water to the shore.

Witnessing her son in the rough seas, Ms. Ta Thi Le Na - Trung's mother felt her limbs numb with fear. Only when she saw her son bring the baby girl ashore did she vent her worries. Trung was also exhausted and vomited continuously at that time.

Admiring Trung's action, Ms. Thuong stuffed money to thank him, but he refused. After that, she also shared the story along with emotional diary entries of her daughter on social networks.

Trung's life-saving action has been praised and rewarded by the school and local authorities. Now, the Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister is a worthy recognition for the brave male student. For Trung, meeting the rescued again, seeing the children healthy and safe is an unforgettable joy.
