Ho Chi Minh City - AI and digital transformation are changing the labor market, posing new requirements in career orientation and career choice for students.

On October 5th, at Vo Thi Sau High School (Gia Dinh ward, Ho Chi Minh City), the career orientation program "Choosing a career with you in the digital age" for the 2026-2027 school year was opened.

The program is also organized in An Giang and Dong Thap, opening a series of career guidance activities expected to be implemented at 450 schools and educational institutions in Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Vinh Long, An Giang, Dong Thap, Lam Dong provinces from now until the end of December 2026.

Career orientation is not just choosing a school, choosing a major

Mr. Le Thang Loi - Director of the Southern Education and Training Development Center, Ministry of Education and Training - said that in the context of science, technology, digital transformation and especially artificial intelligence developing strongly, the professional world is also changing rapidly.

According to Mr. Loi, career orientation today cannot just stop at introducing majors, schools or providing enrollment information. Students need support to understand themselves, understand their profession, grasp labor market trends and identify the skills that need to be prepared for the future.

There is no common answer for everyone and there is also no best career for everyone. The important thing is that each student must gradually understand themselves, understand the career they choose and understand what they need to prepare from today" - Mr. Loi emphasized.

In fact, the development of technology and AI is creating new job positions, while changing the nature and methods of implementation of many existing jobs. Workers therefore have to constantly update their knowledge, technology skills and adaptability.

This also poses new requirements for career guidance activities in high schools. Instead of just providing a list of majors or enrollment information, students need to access information about human resource needs, labor market trends and changes in each field under the impact of technology.

Career guidance at 450 schools and educational institutions

According to the organizers, the 2026-2027 school year program lasts from October 5th to December 30th, expected to be implemented in 450 schools and educational institutions.

At the programs, students are directly exchanged with experts, educators and representatives of training institutions about choosing careers, schools, training levels as well as the capacity requirements of each field.

The activities also aim to support students in identifying their abilities, interests and personal goals, thereby building a study plan, practicing skills and preparing for the process of choosing a career after high school.

Mr. Le Thang Loi said that the Ministry of Education and Training issued Circular No. 16/2026/TT-BGDDT regulating career guidance and streaming in education.

Accordingly, career guidance activities aim to help students identify abilities and interests; access information about industries, job opportunities and labor market trends; and at the same time develop career choice skills and adaptability to changes in society.

According to Mr. Loi, the important goal is to help students have more accurate and objective information to answer questions such as which industry they are suitable for, should choose their favorite industry or industry with many job opportunities, choose university or vocational training, and how AI will affect jobs in the future.

Understand yourself to choose right. Understand the profession to go right. Master technology to adapt. Constantly learn to build the future," Mr. Loi sent to students.
