Unleashing creativity from workers' production practices
The Vietnam Trade and Industry Union promotes emulation movements, encouraging workers to promote initiatives from production practice, bringing economic efficiency.
Initiative profits more than 4.7 billion VND for the company
Recently, 31 officials and employees of the Vietnam General Confederation of Industry and Trade were awarded the Creative Labor Certificate in 2025 by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.
Typical among them is Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan - Mechanical Engineer of the Production Workshop, An Giang Tobacco Company. Mr. Tuan had the initiative "Solutions to minimize waste of raw and auxiliary materials by calculating the actual package ratio at each rolling machine line".
Previously, at An Giang Tobacco Company, the arrangement of separate production in the segment of dividing the number of trays for cigarettes for boosters to run to meet the sufficient quantity needed for export was implemented based on the experience of drawing up a common norm of 215 packs/1 tray of cigarettes.
The application of common norms often leads to high discrepancies, sometimes the labels with many excess trays have to be torn off to recover yarn, leading to loss of filter heads, rolling paper and too much shredded medicine is also a cause affecting the package/kg yarn ratio; sometimes there is a shortage of trays needed for the output volume, forcing machines to stop waiting to switch rolling machines to run more, causing loss of productivity, affecting the overall progress of the workshop; reducing labor productivity, affecting delivery progress and increasing production costs...
Faced with this situation, engineer Nguyen Ngoc Tuan developed a method to calculate the actual package ratio according to each brand of cigarettes, each rolling machine, replacing the previous average norm, helping to accurately determine the number of trays of cigarettes to be produced. A new point in engineer Nguyen Ngoc Tuan's initiative is to apply the method of calculating the actual package ratio for each brand of cigarettes on each rolling machine, replacing the experience-based management method with actual data. The solution is suitable for the characteristics of producing many small-scale orders, diversifying types of exported cigarettes, easy to apply and does not incur equipment investment costs.
From January 2025 to December 2025, engineer Nguyen Ngoc Tuan's initiative has brought clear economic efficiency: estimated savings of more than 4.7 billion VND for the company.
Initiatives originating from daily work
On November 4, Ms. Nguyen Thi Duc - Vice President of the Vietnam Industry and Trade Union informed that, from the direction of the Vietnam Industry and Trade Union, trade union levels in the industry have closely coordinated with professional departments at the same level to launch and organize emulation movements among workers, civil servants, and laborers.
Practice shows that initiatives do not necessarily have to start from great things, but can originate from daily work; a process needs to be improved, a operation needs to be shortened, a device needs to be upgraded or a more effective way of organizing work. The important thing is to correctly detect problems, encourage workers to propose solutions and create conditions for initiatives to be applied and replicated" - Ms. Nguyen Thi Duc said.
Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Trade's implementation of the emulation movement "Innovation and creativity, science and technology development, digital transformation, green transformation", including the movement "Everyday Initiatives", will create more motivation for agencies, units, and businesses to effectively exploit creative resources among officials and employees.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Duc shared that, in response to the movement "Good Labor - High Productivity - Good Income" launched by the VGCL and the movement "Initiative Every Day" organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Vietnam Trade Union of Industry and Trade will continue to coordinate to bring the movements closer to workers.
We hope that each worker will boldly propose practical ideas from their own job positions" - shared the leader of the Vietnam Trade and Industry Union.
