Maintaining security for the Mekong Delta to develop sustainably
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that ensuring security and order is an important foundation for promoting socio-economic development in the Mekong Delta.
On the morning of December 29, in Hanoi, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a conference to ensure security and order to serve the socio-economic development of the Mekong Delta.
Co-chairing the conference was General Luong Tam Quang - Politburo member, Minister of Public Security.

Concluding the conference, the Prime Minister affirmed that the Mekong Delta and its vicinity are areas with particularly important strategic positions in terms of politics, economy - society, national defense, security, ecology, foreign affairs; are the southern " gateway" of the country and are associated with the cause of building and protecting the territorial sovereignty of the Fatherland.
In addition to the basic results achieved, the implementation of ethnic and religious policies, socio-economic development in the Mekong Delta still has shortcomings and limitations; security and order in the Khmer ethnic group in the Mekong Delta still has potential complications.
The Prime Minister said that to thoroughly overcome the shortcomings and limitations, there should be specific tasks and solutions to create a solid foundation for developing the Mekong Delta region commensurate with its potential and advantages, consolidate cultural identity, improve the material and spiritual life of the people, and contribute to firmly ensuring security and national defense in the Southwest of the Fatherland.
The head of the Government requested departments, ministries, branches and localities to identify ensuring security and order as an important, urgent, regular, and long-term political task, under the direct, absolute, and comprehensive leadership of the Party and the management and administration of the State.
Mobilize the combined strength of the entire political system from the central to local levels and the strength of the entire people, in which the heads of local Party committees and authorities take primary, comprehensive, and primary responsibility.
The Prime Minister requested ministries, branches and localities to focus on implementing 5 key, key and consistent groups of tasks.
In particular, it is necessary to ensure a close combination of socio-economic development with ensuring national defense and security and implementing right from the grassroots according to the "four on-site" motto, under the unified direction of local Party Committee and government heads, and the smooth coordination of functional agencies.
Departments, ministries, branches and localities must focus on implementing ethnic and religious policies; implementing economic, cultural and social development programs, creating jobs, resolving conflicts and frustrations; promoting the positivity, self-reliance and self-reliance of the people in socio-economic development and preserving and promoting the good values of traditional culture and beliefs.
Improve the material and spiritual life of ethnic minorities in the area, creating a solid foundation in social prevention work; eliminate and eliminate causes, conditions, and factors that hostile and reactionary forces can take advantage of.
In the immediate future, in 2026, the Prime Minister assigned ministries, branches and localities to complete 7 major groups of tasks, mainly focusing on caring for, developing the economy, culture, education and health in the Mekong Delta; note that during the implementation process, if there are any difficulties or problems, they should report to the Prime Minister for direction in removing them and clearing them.
