Ho Chi Minh City - "Controlling and reducing crime, building a safe, crime-free, drug-free society", that was the opinion of the Director of Ho Chi Minh City Police at the workshop on March 25.
At the scientific workshop "HCMC - 50 years of achievements in construction, protection and development" on March 25, Lieutenant General Le Hong Nam, Director of Ho Chi Minh City Police, shared about the achievements of the city's police force in 50 years of striving to maintain political security, social order and safety, creating a favorable environment for the development of Ho Chi Minh City.
Mr. Nam said that since the beginning of the renovation process, Ho Chi Minh City has always been a key area, comprehensive in terms of political security, social order and safety, where hostile forces at home and abroad have focused on sabotage.
However, under the direct direction of the Ministry of Public Security, the City Party Committee, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and the active support of the people, the Ho Chi Minh City Police have focused their forces on continuously attacking, fighting, and dismantling thousands of groups of reactionaries and opposing politicians, chasing many dangerous leaders, failing the plot to overthrow peaceful developments and riots by hostile forces.
Ho Chi Minh City Police have directed professional units and local police to proactively deploy preventive measures, effectively combat all types of crimes, prevent and promptly handle violations of the law, helping the crime situation to be controlled and reduced.
From 2014 to present, the number of criminal offenses has decreased significantly, especially street crimes, black credit, loan sharking operating at high interest rates in cyberspace, crimes with foreign elements, gambling, prostitution.
In the fight against drugs, Ho Chi Minh City Police have made their mark with many feats, dismantling many large, dangerous rings, transporting drugs between provinces, transnational, with foreign elements, promptly destroying the regulation and extraction of drug precursors and drug production in the area, Lieutenant General Nam emphasized.
Regarding the work of ensuring traffic order and safety, there have been many positive and clear changes, traffic accidents have been controlled and reduced. Over the past 10 years, the fire prevention, fire fighting, rescue and relief forces have directly participated in 1,692 cases and rescued 692 people in fires, natural disasters and fires; found 527 bodies and helped 1,788 people avoid the storm safely. Ho Chi Minh City Police also organized a group of rescue officers and soldiers in Türkiye, leaving many good impressions in the hearts of international friends.
In particular, Ho Chi Minh City Police have successfully completed the dual task of preventing and combating the COVID-19 epidemic, contributing to the restoration and development of the socio-economy. The police force has proactively proposed many solutions, measures, and models in epidemic prevention and control to adapt to each stage of the epidemic, deploying traffic control checkpoints, ensuring security and order in isolation areas and field hospitals.
