Lao Cai - Besides the positive results in health care and ensuring the right to education, child protection in mountainous areas still faces many challenges.

On November 2nd, the inter-sectoral inspection team of the National Committee for Children led by Mr. Cao Xuan Thao, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, worked with Lao Cai province on the situation of children's rights implementation in the area.

Reports at the working session showed that the whole province has nearly 449,000 children, accounting for nearly 1/4 of the population. Of which, nearly 9,000 children are in special circumstances and over 70,000 children are from poor and near-poor households at risk of falling into special circumstances.

In recent years, Lao Cai has implemented many policies and mobilized resources to ensure the right to health care, education and comprehensive development of children.

For the period 2025–2026 alone, the local budget allocates more than 1,778 billion VND to implement projects, resolutions, and programs on protecting, caring for, and educating children.

The Provincial Children's Fund mobilized and received nearly 3 billion VND; national target programs also integrated about 43 billion VND to support children.

In the health sector, the rate of children fully vaccinated annually reaches over 98%. The rate of mobilizing children to school at all levels reaches over 99%.

The whole province has 4,418 disabled children who are able to go to school and receive inclusive education. Notably, 100% of communes and wards have hotlines to protect children operating 24/7.

However, child protection work still faces many challenges, especially the risk of abuse, school violence, injuries, drowning, and difficulties in nutrition and human resources for child protection work at the grassroots level.

At the working session, the inspection team requested Lao Cai province to clarify the situation of child abuse, child trafficking, school violence, early marriage; the implementation of children's participation rights and the quality of child data management.

Speaking at the working session, Ms. Vu Thi Hien Hanh, Vice Chairwoman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee, affirmed that the province will continue to prioritize resources for health, nutrition and education, especially for ethnic minority children, children in border areas and difficult areas.

At the same time, strengthen the detection and timely support of children in special circumstances or at risk of abuse and violence.
