Developing union members from practical actions

The work of developing union members in Vinh Long is associated with caring for life, improving meals, cultural and sports activities and supporting in difficult times, helping workers realize the rights, companionship and role of the organization right at the workplace.

At Ty Xuan Co., Ltd. - Hoa Phu Industrial Park, worker Tran Gia Huy used to work at many businesses in Ho Chi Minh City, but quit his job and returned to Vinh Long to conveniently take care of his elderly parents.

According to Mr. Huy, before starting to work at Ty Xuan Co., Ltd., he researched business information on social networks and found that in addition to salaries according to regulations, employees also have many regimes and practical activities.

The company has money for meals, overtime pay; the Trade Union also organizes many care activities, such as visiting and encouraging workers with dangerous diseases at home. Cultural, artistic, and sports activities during holidays and Tet also contribute to uniting workers," Mr. Huy said.

Worker Le Minh Hai, Furukawa Automotive Systems Vinh Long Vietnam Co., Ltd., said that after a month of probation, he realized that joining the Trade Union brings many practical benefits, helping workers become more attached to the business and the Trade Union organization.

In case Mr. Duong Thanh Huan suffers from a serious illness, he will be supported with more than 136 million VND. In addition, in July 2026, workers will also be able to visit and travel.

Practical care, protecting rights from the grassroots level

Mr. Le Van Tien - Chairman of the grassroots trade union of Ty Xuan Co., Ltd. said that the Trade Union focuses on caring for life, grasping thoughts, and protecting the rights of union members. Since the beginning of the year, the grassroots trade union has admitted 1,170 union members, exceeding the target of 248 union members.

To create trust, the Trade Union must be close, listen, and promptly grasp difficulties and aspirations to coordinate in solving them; and at the same time organize appropriate cultural, artistic and sports activities, creating a cohesive working environment," Mr. Tien added.

Activities such as meals, health check-ups, updating legal knowledge, sightseeing, sports or supporting union members in difficult circumstances help the role of the Trade Union to be expressed by specific benefits.

Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Phuc Linh - Member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Provincial Party Committee Member, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial Labor Federation said that the results of union member development need to be viewed from the effectiveness of operations at the grassroots level.

Mr. Nguyen Phuc Linh said: "In the first 9 months of the year, the whole province developed 18,238 new union members, a decrease of 7.341 union members, a real increase of 10,897 union members, reaching 72.65% of the target assigned by the General Confederation of Labour; established 50 grassroots trade unions".

According to Mr. Linh, focusing on grassroots levels is not only to develop the number of union members, but also to improve the quality of care, representation, protection of rights and create an environment for union members to clearly see the benefits when participating in the Trade Union.

From activities close to needs, Vinh Long Trade Union is shifting the focus of developing union members from purely mobilizing to creating practical value. When rights are concerned, the grassroots becomes a place to consolidate trust and attachment," added the Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial Labor Federation.
