Nghe An Trade Union connects and proposes forms of housing support for workers
Nghe An workers expressed their desire for a stable place to live, suitable for their ability to pay. From that practical need, the Trade Union organization is gradually connecting and supporting to bring the dream of settling down of union members and workers closer.
More than 40% of workers need to rent housing
Having worked far from home for many years, the housing problem is still a concern for many workers and laborers in industrial parks and labor-intensive enterprises. For those who do not have their own houses, monthly rent and electricity, water, and living expenses are a significant part of their income.
Recent survey results of the Labor Federation (LĐLĐ) of Nghe An province show that the demand for stable accommodation, suitable for the affordability of workers and laborers, is still very large. The Labor Federation of Nghe An province has surveyed 53 units and businesses with grassroots trade unions in Vinh Hung ward and VSIP Industrial Park.
2,565 workers participated in the survey, including 941 people working at enterprises in VSIP Industrial Park and 1,624 people in Vinh Hung ward area.
Notably, there are 1,041 workers, equivalent to about 40.6% of the surveyed people, who said they have a need to rent a house. Among them, VSIP Industrial Park has 396 people, Vinh Hung ward has 645 people. Among the surveyed people, 1,080 workers are living in private houses, 868 people are renting houses and 560 people are staying in rented houses.
An income survey shows that most workers have an income of over 5 million VND/month. Of which, 1,731 people have an income of over 7 million VND/month; 707 people have an income from 5 to under 7 million VND/month and 76 people have an income from 3 to 5 million VND/month.
Survey data on rents shows that groups have to spend from 1-2 million VND and over 2 million VND per month, accounting for a significant number. When adding electricity, water, parking, travel and other living expenses, the pressure on workers' income is even clearer, especially for families with young children. Workers need a living space with affordable prices, convenient for going to work, near schools, markets, medical facilities and facilities serving family life.
Trade unions jointly nurture the aspiration to settle down
Nghe An Trade Union proposed that the development of social housing for rent should be concentrated in areas with a large number of workers and laborers, and at the same time, the price level must be suitable for the actual income level.
Over the past time, taking care of housing has also been one of the contents that the Trade Union levels of Nghe An province have paid attention to. In addition to the "Trade Union Home" program to support union members in difficult housing construction and repair, the Trade Union organization also connects and introduces social housing policies, advises union members on conditions, dossiers, and procedures for buying and renting social housing; and participates in monitoring the implementation of policies related to the rights of workers.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Kha Van Tam - Chairman of the Nghe An Provincial Labor Federation - said that housing care for union members and workers is always concerned by trade union levels. Over the past time, the Trade Union has regularly grasped needs, connected, introduced and proposed forms of support; advised on conditions and procedures for accessing social housing, and at the same time implemented the "Trade Union Home" program for union members in difficult circumstances.
According to Mr. Kha Van Tam, this survey will help reflect more closely the actual needs of workers and laborers, creating a basis for researching appropriate Trade Union social housing investment plans. The ultimate goal is to give workers more opportunities to access a stable place to live at a reasonable cost, thereby being assured to work, build a life and be attached to the business for a long time.
