Workers are the subjects of innovation

Minh Huyền (báo lao động) 30/09/2026 11:28 (GMT+7)

October 1st every year is chosen as the National Innovation Day. This is not only an opportunity to raise awareness about the role of science and technology in socio-economic development but also to affirm the role of workers in the innovation process.

Small work, big efficiency

At Rang Dong Light Source & Vacuum Flask Joint Stock Company, Mr. Tuong Van Dinh (born in 1981) is still considered one of the "innovators" of the business. Coming from a worker, through efforts and learning, Mr. Dinh has now become the team leader of Assembly for Export 1, LED product assembly industry 2 / Led, electronic & TBCS workshop.

As a person directly involved in implementing LSS, Kaizen (a famous Japanese business philosophy, meaning "continuous improvement" or "changing to be better") for products, Mr. Dinh and the workers in the team have increased labor productivity by an average of 20% - 67% by type, reduced working hours, improved efficiency and can meet an additional 182% of the workload in a day.

Mr. Dinh's Assembly team has applied improvements to GDXL 1074 LED lights of all kinds, increasing labor productivity by 56% and reducing 3 direct workers, saving 270 million VND/year. Or like LED shelf and freezer lights exported to the UK, USA, Canada, the improvement has increased labor productivity by 67% and shortened production time, thereby saving 780 million VND per year.

In addition to Mr. Dinh, there is also worker Mai Huy Thien at the glass thermos factory. Mr. Thien has researched and successfully manufactured many devices such as manufacturing automatic nylon peeling machines for export and domestic thermos cases, helping to reduce 3 direct workers, while increasing labor productivity in the thermos case stage by 10% - 15% depending on the type of product.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Kien - Deputy General Director of the Company - said that one of the key factors creating this transformation is putting people in the center of the transformation process. Rang Dong is focusing on building a "new Rang Dong person" that adapts to the digital environment, masters technology and proactively innovates in work.

According to Mr. Kien, transformation is not only a story of technology but first of all a change in thinking. The strategy can only succeed when each official and employee truly changes, proactively learns, is creative and adapts to new requirements.

When workers are at the center of innovation

The story from Rang Dong shows that in the process of transforming the growth model, science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation are becoming important driving forces to improve labor productivity, competitiveness of businesses and the economy. In which, workers are not only the object of technology reception, but are increasingly becoming creative subjects, directly creating innovation initiatives in production and business.

This spirit is emphasized in Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation. The Resolution identifies science, technology, innovation and digital transformation as decisive factors for national development in the new period; and at the same time puts people at the center, considering the development of high-quality human resources as one of the key tasks.

This is the approach consistent with the spirit of Resolution 57: Innovation and creativity must not only take place in research rooms or technology centers, but must be spread throughout society, in each business, and in each job position.

Therefore, many businesses are shifting from the mindset of "training workers to use technology" to "developing workers to jointly create with technology".

According to Mr. Le An Hai - Chairman of the Vietnam Trade Union of Industry and Trade, in the innovation ecosystem at enterprises, the Trade Union organization plays an important role in unleashing the creative potential of workers. Especially creative labor emulation movements, promoting initiatives, and technical improvements. Millions of initiatives of union members and workers have been applied to production, helping businesses save costs and improve operational efficiency.

To realize the goal of developing the country based on science, technology and innovation, each business needs to consider employees as the center of the transformation process. Because those who directly produce, directly operate and directly solve daily problems are the ones who are capable of creating the most practical initiatives.

When each worker becomes a creative subject, each factory becomes an innovation space, Vietnam will have an additional solid foundation to enter a new stage of development, where technology goes with people and creativity becomes the driving force of growth.

Linking innovation activities with emulation movements launched by trade unions is one of the goals that the VGCL proposes units to organize and implement to celebrate the National Innovation Day 2026 (INNOVATION DAY - October 1). The theme "Innovation - The driving force for the development of the whole society" of INNOVATION DAY 2026 is concretized by the Trade Union organization by promoting propaganda, raising awareness about innovation; launching and organizing emulation movements and initiative activities among union members and workers; promoting the role of trade unions in connecting and supporting the application of initiatives.

In which, through propaganda to clarify the role of workers in the process of technological innovation, integrating response to the Innovation Day with emulation movements, programs to promote initiatives, technical improvements, rationalization of production, and improve labor productivity implemented by trade union levels.

For grassroots trade unions in enterprises, focus on mobilizing employees to propose initiatives associated with practical issues such as improving productivity and product quality; saving raw materials and energy; improving tools, equipment and production processes; ensuring labor safety and hygiene; improving the environment and working conditions; applying digital technology in management, production and labor organization.

To promote the role in connecting and supporting the application of initiatives, the trade union will proactively coordinate with employers, specialized agencies, research institutes, universities, experts and related organizations to introduce and connect initiatives and solutions of union members and workers with potential for application.
