Trips that open the way to escape poverty for workers in the Lao Cai highlands

Lao Cai - From low-income jobs in their hometowns to months working in Korea, many highland workers have accumulated capital to develop their family economy.

Previously, Ms. Hoang Thi Loan's life in Lao Cai ward mainly relied on hired sales work. Low income and unstable work made it not easy to improve the family's economy.

Wanting to change circumstances, she decided to find a new direction instead of continuing to be stuck with jobs with limited income.

In December 2025, Ms. Loan registered to participate in a seasonal work program in Korea under Visa E8 for 8 months. Her job is to care for and harvest strawberries, onions, and garlic at high-tech agricultural farms.

In the new working environment, she has the opportunity to access modern agricultural production processes, while accumulating financial resources after working time.

For her, the trip not only means earning extra income but also opening up new choices for her family's future.

Similarly, Mr. Le Van Tuy, in Na Pha village, Ban Lau commune, went to Korea to work seasonally from March 2026 for 5 months.

The hard work, along with a salary of about 40 million VND per month, has helped him have a significant income compared to his previous savings ability. After working, he saved enough money to pay off all the loans for building a house.

This time going to Korea, I want to have a stable job, accumulate capital and experience to return to invest in agricultural farms later," Mr. Tuy shared.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Cuong - Vice Chairman of Ban Lau Commune People's Committee said that the number of local workers going to work seasonally in Korea has increased significantly, from 4 people in 2025 to 40 people in 2026.

It is expected that in the last months of the year, the locality will continue to have more qualified workers returning to work in Korea.

According to statistics from the Lao Cai Provincial Internal Affairs General Service Center, from the beginning of the year to now, the total number of seasonal workers going to work in Korea reached 635 people, including 19 cases of re-entry for the second time.

In September 2026 alone, the unit coordinated with localities to organize nearly 20 mobile job transaction sessions throughout the province.

Through transaction sessions, workers have access to recruitment information, market needs advice and learn about job opportunities in the province, domestically as well as abroad.

Mr. Luu Cong Hoan - Deputy Director of the Lao Cai Provincial General Internal Affairs Service Center informed that, based on data and job demand, the center will screen and connect eligible workers with businesses in the province, in the country and units licensed to send workers to work abroad.

Along with job connection, the center focuses on vocational training and foreign languages, gradually improving the quality and skills of workers working abroad.

These are important stages for workers not only to find suitable jobs but also to be able to adapt to the new working environment, ensure benefits and improve efficiency after each trip.
