Journalism creates trust, spreads good things in the digital age

Speaking at a meeting with 101 typical journalists who have won the National Press Award over the years on the occasion of the 101st anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2026), General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that the press must contribute to consolidating social trust and protecting the ideological foundation of the Party.

The press must stick to reality, respect the truth, and take the interests of the people as the starting point. The press must accompany the priority tasks of the country in the new era. The press needs to participate with a constructive spirit.

In the digital media environment, the boundaries between information, entertainment and commerce are getting closer. Therefore, the press must maintain standards. Do not run after leniency, do not exploit pain to attract readers, do not turn private stories into "consumed goods". The press must make society calmer, more kind, and have more faith in good things.

Talking to Lao Dong on June 17, former Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association Nguyen Duc Loi clearly stated that the guiding and orienting messages of the General Secretary and President for Vietnamese revolutionary journalism help build trust, arouse the spirit of innovation, and encourage the aspiration for development.

According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Loi, the press not only plays a reflective role but also has the task of contributing to building a better and more civilized society. To do that, we must make society more peaceful and better.

In which, information, whether positive or negative, has a strong impact on public opinion. Therefore, even if it is information about negative issues, fighting against corruption, wastefulness, and negativity, information must be provided calmly, in depth, and not push the matter to extremes.

We reflect the truth truthfully and objectively, avoiding affection and other factors dominating, and external factors affecting us. When performing the role and responsibility of a journalist, absolutely do not let this force or that force affect our journalistic works and professional thinking," emphasized the Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association.

According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Loi, Vietnamese journalism is a revolutionary journalism, so first of all, it must uphold the quality of loyalty, including loyalty to the Party, State, people, and revolutionary traditions. To develop, it must maintain its roots and foundation.

In an era of constantly changing society, the development of technology, the change in the way information is produced, the press must change accordingly. Besides valuing content, journalistic works must also be creative, especially the way information is conveyed.

At the present time, readers are facing a sea of information with many different types and methods of transmission, especially on social networks, information is not always transmitted responsibly. Besides accurate and proper information, there are many types of inaccurate, distorted, and even counter-information. Therefore, the press must always uphold responsibility in its information activities, in its creativity and information transmission.

Each journalist must be responsible for their journalistic works, must calculate and anticipate the impact and effectiveness of the information published. This is a component to help distinguish between official and formal journalism and other types of information.

The Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association also emphasized that a strong press must be a press capable of protecting the truth, spreading good things, criticizing policies with a constructive spirit, nurturing social trust, encouraging innovation and preserving human dignity in communication.

The press must both maintain political bravery and strongly innovate technology; both protect the Party's ideological foundation, listen and dialogue with life; both fight against the wrong and protect the right; both reflect reality, and build trust; both compete in the digital environment, and not lose cultural standards and professional ethics.
