Veterans are a reliable support for Party committees, authorities and people
That is the statement of General Phan Van Giang - Member of the Politburo, Deputy Prime Minister, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense at the VIII National Congress of the Vietnam Veterans Association, term 2026-2031, on June 17.
According to the Minister of National Defense, the Vietnamese nation has a tradition of ardent patriotism and resilient will in the struggle to build and defend the country. In the heroic pages of the nation's history, there is always a deep mark, the great contribution and sacrifice of generations of officers and soldiers of the Vietnam People's Army. After completing their military duties and returning to normal life, veterans (CCBs) continue to maintain revolutionary qualities, promote the good qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", uphold the spirit of self-reliance, self-strengthening, and determination to win, and achieve many achievements in various fields.
Comrades are worthy of being an absolute revolutionary force loyal to the Party, a reliable support for Party committees, authorities and people," General Phan Van Giang emphasized.
General Phan Van Giang said that officers and soldiers throughout the army are very proud of the soldiers of the past who shared the joys and sorrows, fought many battles, together overcame hardships, contributing to making miracles in the cause of national liberation, national defense and international duty. Returning from the war, although many people suffered injuries, life is still difficult, but with the bravery and will of revolutionary soldiers, veterans continue to affirm their values in many fields of social life. Many people have become leaders, managers, scientists, and entrepreneurs, contributing to the cause of renovation and national development.
According to General Phan Van Giang, more than 20 veterans were honored by the Party and State with the title of Labor Hero in the renovation period; hundreds of Association organizations were awarded Labor Medals; thousands of veterans were commended at all levels... are proof of the efforts and contributions of the veteran force and also the pride of generations of officers and soldiers of the Vietnam People's Army.
According to the Minister of National Defense, in all conditions and circumstances, the forces of veterans always stand shoulder to shoulder with cadres and soldiers in the struggle to prevent and combat the strategy of "peaceful evolution", "self-evolution", "self-transformation", "de-politicization" of the army by hostile forces; struggle to refute wrong views, protect Marxism-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh's ideology and the Party's guidelines and viewpoints.
According to General Phan Van Giang, the Vietnam Veterans Association and the Ministry of National Defense have closely and effectively coordinated in propaganda and education on national defense and security; participated in building an all-people national defense, people's security posture; implemented military rear policies and policies for people with meritorious services.
The General shared about the active and responsible participation of the Associations at all levels in the Campaign "500 days and nights to promote the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs' remains", as well as in solving problems arising at the grassroots level, contributing to maintaining political stability, social order and safety and consolidating the "people's heart formation".
Continuing to consolidate coordination between the Ministry of National Defense and the Veterans Association, General Phan Van Giang said that in recent years, the entire army has promoted heroic traditions, solidarity, unity, and completed military and national defense goals and tasks; well performed the functions of a combat army, a working army and a production labor army. Promoting the nature of Uncle Ho's soldiers, the entire army is also the core force in disaster prevention and control, epidemics, rescue and relief; participating in socio-economic development, building new rural areas, sustainable poverty reduction and ensuring social security. Many programs such as "The army joins hands to build new rural areas", "The army joins hands for the poor - leaving no one behind", "Gratitude", "Comradeship house", "Great Unity house" continue to be effectively implemented.
According to the Minister of National Defense, the achievements of the army in the past time have the important contribution of the Vietnam Veterans Association and generations of veterans across the country. The Minister expressed his desire to continue to receive the coordination and assistance of the Vietnam Veterans Association in the coming time, and affirmed that officers and soldiers throughout the army always believe that generations of veterans will continue to promote the tradition of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", successfully completing all assigned tasks.
Officers and soldiers throughout the army always determine that the tasks and work of the Vietnam Veterans Association are also their own tasks," General Phan Van Giang said.
General Phan Van Giang believes that after the VIII Congress, the coordination relationship between the Ministry of National Defense and the Vietnam Veterans Association will continue to be consolidated and developed more and more substantively and effectively; contributing to building a revolutionary, regular, elite, modern army and building a comprehensively strong Vietnam Veterans Association, meeting the requirements of tasks in the new era.
