Dong Thap - The province sets a target for 2026 to send more than 2,200 workers to work abroad.

On April 24, Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee organized a Conference to deploy the work of sending workers to work abroad under contracts in 2026. Mr. Phan Van Thang - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, along with representatives of departments, branches and localities attended.

In 2025, the work of sending workers to work abroad still achieved positive results with 2,610 workers leaving the country, reaching 102% of the plan. The main receiving markets are Japan (accounting for more than 68%), followed by South Korea and Taiwan (China). Notably, 100% of communes and wards in the province have workers going to work abroad. This result comes from the synchronous implementation of support policies.

During the year, the provincial budget supported more than 1,664 workers with a total budget of over 7.5 billion VND to pay for vocational training, foreign language learning and health check-ups. At the same time, the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies disbursed more than 99 billion VND for 1,569 workers to borrow capital to work abroad. The initial economic efficiency is clear when workers in Japan and Korea can accumulate from 25 - 40 million VND per month, contributing to improving family life and promoting local economic development.

However, this work still has some limitations. The situation of workers violating contracts and illegal residence still occurs in some cases. The work of supporting workers after returning home, especially in startup orientations, has not achieved the expected effectiveness. In addition, the labor market is still not diverse when most businesses still focus on traditional markets such as Japan.

Speaking to direct at the conference, Mr. Phan Van Thang acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of all levels and sectors in the past time. At the same time, he emphasized that the goal for 2026 is to strive to send 2,200 or more workers to work abroad. To achieve this goal, he requested localities to continue to promote propaganda, consulting, and introducing reputable businesses to create trust for people. Along with that, the province orients to expand and diversify the labor market to countries such as Germany, Australia, Greece; and at the same time focus on improving the quality of foreign language training, skills and discipline for workers.

Local authorities are required to closely monitor the labor situation after contracts expire and return to the country, thereby having practical support policies to realize the goal of "going to work as hired laborers - returning to become employers".

In addition, functional agencies need to strengthen legal dissemination and implement a mechanism of commitment to responsibility to limit the situation of absconding and contract violations. The province also resolutely handles organizations and individuals illegally brokering labor to ensure discipline in the foreign labor market.

On this occasion, the Provincial People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 20 collectives and 10 individuals with outstanding achievements in sending workers to work abroad in 2025, thereby recognizing their positive contributions to the goals of human resource development and socio-economic development of the locality.
