Pensions and income of retired artists
Artists in the fields of theater, cinema, and television have their own characteristics compared to many professions. In addition to pensions, there will be other sources of income.
Artists under the management of public art units still have many job opportunities after retirement. Even many artists in public theaters after retirement are more sought-after and more famous – compared to when they were working.
Actress Tu Oanh (formerly working at the Youth Theater) admitted that after retiring, she received many invitations to act in films, both in the film and television fields. In which, with the female lead role in the movie "Rain on the Butterfly's Wings", artist Tu Oanh also had the opportunity to walk on the red carpet of many international film festivals.
When participating in prime time TV series, Tu Oanh had a series of roles that caused a storm on social media platforms, such as the role of Mrs. Bich in "Huong Vi Tinh Than". Tu Oanh became more famous, with many diverse roles, lively and sensational designs.
Tu Oanh said, "Before, I usually only played supporting roles, but the director of "Rain on the Butterfly's Wings" invited me to play the female lead in the movie. I am very touched.
Artists admit that when they are still working at theaters, they must focus and prioritize the performance schedule, play rehearsal schedule, and performance schedule of the theater. Therefore, artists Tu Oanh, or Meritorious Artist Phu Thang, People's Artist Trung Anh... rarely act in movies while still working.
After retiring, artists who grew up from the stage are often in high demand, participating in many fields, from acting in movies, advertising, attending events, recording voice reading, teaching at art schools... Thanks to this, the income of artists when retiring can come from many sources.
Artists stepping out of the stage are always highly appreciated for their acting ability, acting technique, diction, character building and character expression on screen.

Meritorious Artist Phu Thang currently receives a pension of about 7.5 million VND/month. But he shared that he still acts in movies, records audio, reads commentary... and has additional income, ensuring family life.
Income from acting in TV series and movies has many different salary levels, depending on the main/supporting roles, the number of scenes appearing... According to Lao Dong reporters, in the field of television films, artists are paid salaries according to the number of scenes. An veteran artist can be paid 600,000 VND/scene.
With movies, the cat-xe level will be higher, also depending on the difficulty, frequency of appearance, main/supporting roles, and actor's reputation. Veteran artists can be paid according to the filming day. An artist said that he was once paid 10 million VND/day of filming at a film project.
The level of investment in film projects also determines the amount of cat-xe the producer spends on the cast.
Besides acting in movies, many artists are also busy with advertising shows, attending events and participating in teaching at some universities on art.
People's Artist Minh Hoa is currently teaching at Hanoi University of Theater and Cinema. People's Artist Lan Huong used to teach at both Hanoi University of Theater and Cinema and Hanoi College of Arts.
