Teachers enlisting in military service are considered for seniority to be awarded Medals
Reader levuxxx@gmail. com asks: Is the time teachers go to military service considered for the "For the Cause of Education" Medal?
Legal Consulting Department of Lao Dong Newspaper answers:
Clause 1, Article 11 of Circular 67/2026/TT-BGDĐT of the Ministry of Education and Training detailing and guiding the implementation of a number of articles of the law on emulation and commendation for the education sector (effective from October 1, 2026), stipulates the Medal "For the Cause of Education" as follows:
The Medal "For the Cause of Education" (hereinafter referred to as the Medal) is a form of commendation from the Ministry of Education and Training to be awarded once to individuals inside and outside the education sector who are exemplary in well complying with the Party's guidelines, policies, and laws of the State and have made many contributions to the cause of education and training, including:
1. Individuals working in the education sector for 20 years or more.
In case an individual working in the education sector is sent by a competent authority to study or perform military service, and then continues to work in the education sector, the time spent studying or performing military service is counted as the time working in the education sector for consideration of awarding the Medal. The time of execution of the disciplinary decision is not counted in the working time for consideration of awarding the Medal.
The time the individual worked in the education sector in areas with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions according to the Prime Minister's regulations is multiplied by a coefficient of 2 when calculating working time for consideration of the Medal.
Thus, the time when an individual is working as a teacher and is sent to study or perform military service by a competent authority, and then continues to work in the education sector, that time is counted as working time for consideration for the Medal "For the Cause of Education".
