Vietnam - Slovakia upgrade relations to Strategic Partnership
On the morning of April 13, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico witnessed the handover ceremony of cooperation documents and met with the press to announce the results of the talks.
In the presence of Politburo members, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, ministries, branches, agencies, and localities of the two countries exchanged 6 cooperation documents between the two countries, including:
Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam and the Ministry of National Defense of Slovakia on cooperation in the field of defense industry;
Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs of Slovakia;
Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of culture for the period 2026-2030 between the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam and the Ministry of Culture of Slovakia;
Cooperation agreement between Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee and Vysoké Tatry City Government in the fields of economy - trade - science - technology and culture in the period 2026-2031;
Memorandum of understanding between the National Standards and Metrology Commission (STAMEQ) and the Slovak Office for Standards, Metrology and Testing (UNMS) on cooperation in the fields of standardization, measurement, technical regulations and conformity assessment, recognition and quality management;
Memorandum of understanding between the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute and the Slovak Nuclear Power Plant Research Institute.
At a press conference, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung said that the visit of the Slovak Prime Minister to Vietnam this time takes place at a very important time, right after Vietnam consolidated its high-level leadership apparatus.
Prime Minister Robert Fico was the first guest that the Prime Minister received in his capacity as Prime Minister; and also the first EU senior leader to visit Vietnam after Vietnam - EU upgraded relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
In an atmosphere of sincerity, trust and mutual understanding, the two Prime Ministers had a very successful meeting and reached high consensus in many aspects. The two Prime Ministers adopted a Joint Statement on upgrading Vietnam-Slovakia relations to a Strategic Partnership.

Right during this visit, ministries, branches, localities, and businesses of the two countries signed and exchanged 16 cooperation documents in important fields such as politics - diplomacy, defense, culture, nuclear energy, quality measurement standards, local cooperation, security, health, tourism, shipbuilding...
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico affirmed that the relationship between Vietnam and Slovakia has no open question about politics and is developing very well, in the spirit of mutual benefit.
During this visit to Vietnam, the Slovak side has a large business delegation accompanying them and will also attend the Vietnam - Slovakia Business Forum. The Slovak Prime Minister said that the two Governments support and create conditions for businesses of the two countries to cooperate, invest, do business, turn political commitments into specific cooperation results, contributing to the relationship between the two countries.
Affirming that Slovakia is ready to cooperate and share with Vietnam in priority areas such as nuclear power development, defense industry, finance, education and training..., Prime Minister Robert Fico said that Slovakian people really like to travel to Vietnam; thanked Vietnam for visa exemption for Slovak citizens traveling to Vietnam; wished for direct flights between Slovakia and Vietnam to promote tourism cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.
